Get muddy man!IN STRAPS..
Hey all, ok after a long road trip across Europe, a lot of Bike porn, skateparks, coffee, beer, camera lenses & general street craze.. I did feel there was something missing in my life, did you?And on one afternoon I realized that I needed a Christopher Mc-Candles “Into the Wild” moment with fresh air, nature and mud on my face, literally!I needed to go offroading again, to be liberated from the concrete planes of London city life. Get super dirty! So much so that my own mum would not recognize me. And I was not alone with that feeling.. that’s why every now and again we need to break away from the norm of everyday life. Its one of those things which makes you a better rider.
You will love it!
Ride on!

SOFB ONLINE MAG
INTERVIEW with Marco
Marco one of sickest riders from Japan. Together with his friend Nasty they visit Europe and dominated last two competitions. We manage to catch up with Marco at eurobike..
STOKED ON FIXED BIKES
SOFB- What makes you good at riding fixed?
Marco- What important its just to enjoy riding. Also with friends, local spots, and make it a life style with your bike.
SOFB- Tell us about the last two competitions you went to.
Marco- This trip was not easy, I had such a great ex-periences, meet new riders, seen alot of place’s. In Japan we have skate park, but not like europe style.
SOFB- You inspire a lots of rid-ers what you will say to them
Marco- I get inspired from another riders too. I am so happy to meet riders from all over the world. When I have a chance I like to ride with all of them.
SOFB- How important is your crew?
Marco- My crew is like my family. If I didn’t have this crew i would not be the rider that i am today.
SOFB- What is the next of your projects?
Marco- secret xxx
SOFB- Could you describe the. frame? It seems like it can take a beating.
Marco- The frame is called “killin” its made for trick free-style.This frame takes 2.3 inch tire’s, frames is design for put peg and 14mm shaft. We though long and hard on making this frame right,by using special tubing which is strong for this frame.
SOFB- Tell as about your coming month. and where are you at the moment?
Marco- This trip will never forget. We was on a plane for 14 hour’s, once we got of the plane we have to catch a train to Germany, We don’t speak a word of english ...When we arrived, we thought we was staying in a hotel, we ended up in a tent for 4 days & 4 nights...This trips for me has been crazy, so many people help me so much....We are very thankful and most appreciated.
SOFB- Last question; any shout outs?
Marco- I just want to say THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH all people that I met ,sponsor’s, & family I really appreciated.
SOFB- Do you like to ride street or park more? Are you better at one more than the other?
Marco- I always ride street. More real you know.
SOFB- How do you get pumped to ride hard?
Marco- I just keep trying and riding hard.
SOFB- How do you set up your pedals before you get to an obstacle?
Marco-I won’t tap rear wheel before i hit the obstacle, because i don’t want to loose speed, so I lift up my rear wheel once before the hit.

Monkeying Around
The name of this article came naturally for me, maybe the fact that everyone was just monkey-ing around. How else do you describe that feeling of camaraderie between riders who are all out with the same agenda? We were all on the hunt for new spots with no pressure to perform, just relaxing and exploring. Any reason to venture into unknown cul-de-sacs of the city, in the hope of finding something new or challenging to ride is a good reason to me. The photos in this story show the results of a couple of small trips just like that during the free time we had between competitions. I want to say a bit more about the riders, but there are just too many to name - they know who they are. It’s just rewarding to get a good niche group of riders togeth-er.

Thanks to the upcoming 2012 Olympics, London’s architecture is constantly changing and evolving. There are new skate parks and dirt tracks popping up all over the place and urban landscaping that presents many opportunities, to the contrary of their reason for construction. This reactionary feeling to the development of the Olympic complex is evident in many athletes on wheels.

The 1st Eurobike Championship and the biggest European cycling trade show took place at Freidrishafen in Germany over the first week in September 2011. This was the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new friends and immerse myself in the bike porn of the cycling world. Lets start from beginning. After an almost 20h drive from London, thanks to my excellent navigational skills, we finally got to the campsite. Already pitched up there were half of London’s 14 Bike Co crew and crews from all over Europe

After setting up the tents, Rip Zingers showed us the photos from the first day they’d been there. Later on that night we made an excursion to pick up 2 Japanese riders AKA Nasty and Marco, from the city centre station. Credit goes to Mr Rip for encouraging everyone’s moral with his great attitude and finding ways to keep people psyched. On the way back from the station there were some small problems with the police; actually you’re not allowed to ride without lights and under the influence of alcohol in Germany, we’ll know that for next time! What better way to greet the riders than with a small ses-sion at the bus station. On the way back Mickey took us on the scenic route and Nasty got everyones attention with his signature super fast fakie sliders. I couldn’t wait to see that in daylight. The next day, after couple hours of the trade show, everyone need some fresh air so we packed up the van and headed to the skatepark on the outskirts of the city. This was where the 1st Eurobike Championship was due to take place in a couple of days time.

Perfect weather and everyone was on a high and feeding each other with sick lines and going big. When most of us began to get sun burnt it was the signal that some liquid refreshment was required i.e. German beer and a dip in the lake. The following day time flew by and before we knew it was time for the sprints. Everyone indulged in a bit too much fine ale, fun, fights, mosh-pits, pizza and semi-nudity. For sure, some of the experi-ences will stay in my memory for a long time.. Thanks to everyone that I met along the way on my journey of Eurobike - see you next year, peace out.

After a hard last day at eurobike show we headed to the friedrichshagen lake to chill & drink some fine ger-man beer's after the 4 days endurance bike porn and watch super ted ride into the lake, yes thats right......
he totally rode into the lake!it almost felt like being at "loch ness" and clocking a bearded monster cruzing across the lake with sea-
weed included....priceless!we then all headed back to our campsite where john from 14bike organised a bbq,
the word got around like a wildfire, 30+ turn up mixtmeat/14bike/fgl posse, sound track, nucult,
w base & everyone fix bike's alike turn up.Then we heard from saskia
that there was a "rolla puluza" event happening at our campsite and
not many rider's were pencilled in, so we thought lets give them some support and
join in afterwards we celebrated by downing some more
fine ale/beer's & another bbq.To the event everyone jumped in 110% and
to my surprise, everyone had fast sprint times, totally matched by their eating and
downing their beer's times...hahaha!our own greg falski clock up an impresive 93.6
on his 1st run but the biggest surprise our gus mallet sprinted his way to the final
with speed demon merlin who also clock up some fast time's.
result.
1st gus mallet u.k mixtmeat/14 bikes time 100.002nd merlin meuris time 99.5
3rd greg falski sofb time 96.6
thanks to goldsprint & stefan for putting on the event & everyone who turn up from the bbq.

Eurobike trade show
First stop was the press office, coffee, croissant and emails. Eu-robike is the second biggest bike show from Interbikes USA and this year I could see a couple of bikes that got my attention for both good and bad reasons. But it’s not the point for us all to have the same taste. It’s cool, and slightly amusing sometimes, that the established manufacturers are stepping into the fixed gear market.

The GT stand was really impresive with their collection of bikes. This bike.. frame has the potential and the features to look ahead of the times, not just 29” but in fixed world. Just look at the perfect geometry, materials and special features. Personally the only poten-tial flaw is the lack of horizontal dropouts, but that’s just me. However GT still presented a fixed bike dedicated to city use and the classic GT signature triple triangle will work too. Slick aluminium frame and finish.. nice one! Next is the Charge Scissor that after so many years in development looked almost perfect, that’s one of the bikes I really want to ride.

Max Commercial and his team prepared their vison for the fixed market. It’s a really brave concept, love it or not. I would say that all these products are all well sought out and in this case the crazy design is backed up with strong, light materials and a good finish.
STOKED ON FIXED BIKES
Commasini Sintesi got my attention with it’s nice finish and attention to detail, just a classic and not so simple bike..Da Rosa have deep roots with track bikes that remain strong through their years of experience, but they need to forget about that if they want to stand out in this market. I don’t even have words for this bike, maybe it will find admirers, time will tell. But at the moment it’s getting a lot of atten-tion for the wrong reasons.
SOFB ONLINE MAG
Last, but by no means least is the cherry of the Cinelli cake - the Lazer. If Zaha Hadid designed a bike this is what it would look like.
I know that lots of interesting bikes at the show didn’t make it to this issue, but the best of them you will be familliar with and they will be featur-ing in SOFB in due corse (please don’t hesitate to contact me...). Big up to Traffick Distribution for representing freestyle fixed.. For most exhibitors the next stop will be Interbike Vegas USA.

One of the first packed events at Eurobike were the adrena-line junkie sprints. At the start line there were more than 50 riders, all fighting for a place in the final. In this group were a lot of strong riders and the spirt was high. Appart from the spectacular crashes behind the finish line, due to the fact it was a 200m sprint with 2m breaking area before the corner, we saw some good battles and skilled riders.

Riders from all over came for this contest as far as Japan and a lot of the European crews. The day started with a blue bird sky, when we got to the skatepark music was blasting and the atmosphere was Redbull among the 30+ riders. Everyone could easily find something that suited their style of riding and had a chance to show off their skills at the park.
STOKED ON FIXED BIKES
During the 1st run, Oscar did nice transfers and super high tables, Anto threw a big 360 and no hander over the mini ramp, and Simon got even higher and faster with barspins thrown in. Gus was still in the game with his jedi 360’s/180 smooth solid run, Nasty’s signature slidder and 360 no hander, Marco hit everything on sight with smooth consistently nailed tricks, Jatto killed the rails until dropping a sick fakie line crash with another rid-er, which was epic. Then the heavens open up and the rain came down, if only the weather could’ve held up for a bit longer but the organizers called time out hoping the rain would stop. After 30min’s the rain didn’t look like it was going go, so Rip Zinger got on the blower and set up the bunny hop competition.. Gus, Jordan, Marco, Hector, Nasty and Gamok were bunny hopping till the end despite the rain. Gamok hit 80cm with the win although that’s not the 1st time he’s reach that height, followed by a close second Gus at 75cm high.

It’s encouraging that big money is coming into game and some riders realized that, but is it the right motivation? As a consequence a lot of riders feel more pressure to do well and this prevents riders finding their line and having fun, I’m sure that many riders will agree with me on that. Such a big competition could not have happened without the right judges/riders; Andy Eliis, Thibs Onda on the mic, Super Ted and Ines who all found time for their own runs too. Ted used whole skatepark, even the dirt section, Thibs smooth silkness and Ines showed some acrobatic skills on her fixed whip that has not been seen before in this competition format.

Back to the comp, the rain wasn’t going to stop so the organizers made the decision to focus on the small bowl section that looked safer than rid-ing on the slippery metal ramps. Some riders, however, were not afraid to check how slippery the metal ramps were.
The judges gave first price to Marco who squeezed in a 2min run with tons of tricks
Best trick went to Oscar for his one footed one handed tables and can-cans..
Despite the rain, that failed to dampen spirits, it was a great event that showed the fixed freestyle scene in Europe is growing in strength and heading in the right direction. Stoked!!

Beginning of Juli the idea came up to have Ricardo Lino and Jotta crash at Zontrac‘s Head-quarter in Wiesbaden Germany, 2 days before Eurobike. The intention was to get to know each other better, shoot some fotos and film some footage for a small edit. ( www.vimeo.com/28741163)
SOFB ONLINE MAG
First day - 12:30 pm, Frankfurt International Airport. Finally arrived, two tired looking portugies guys walked towards us, with big smiles on their faces, some Zontrac Gear on and each a big black bag in their hand. After a warm welco-ming and introduction it was clear, these two dudes belong to the family!
Despiting the fact that they were pretty tired, not having slept all night before in Madrid, they were still eager to go downtown Frankfurt to shred up some spots there. After a small lunch we stopped at the University campus in Bockenheim. As Jotta was getting warm on those nice banks in front of the library, Lino was taking care of the rails in the area. At least those that were not patched with little metal nobs.
STOKED ON FIXED BIKES
Allright off to the next spot - Skatepark at Westhafen. Not to our suprise and stoked about the fact that there was a bunch of BMX riders and skaters enjoying a session here, we gladly joined them in the shade under a massiv bridge during this hot and sunny day.
Lino and Jotta both dropped one line after another. Barhops, Feables, Smiths, Tiregrabs, Tabletops. Solid riding all day long. After sunset we headed back to our place in Wiesbaden to end the day with some juicy ribeye steaks and nice conversations. Oh yeah and repeatively bumping the Macarena song at high volume, peace Ricardo!
Second day: On todays agenda is Frankfurt‘s „Geddo Spot“. ...More to come... www.zontrac.com / www.jasonsellers.tumblr.com

You can get quickly to a favorite place for coffee, which I love. Meet people who like me love to ride in the urban jungle.Fixed bike for me, no ideology, just a bike that Im able to to re-pair quickly easily modified, only for me. I will definitely recommend them to riders which like going fast in the city as well to those wiling to try there some free-style park moves. What more I spoke with Chris Delia who is testing them for long time now about his experience with those rims. Chris use them with fat Halo twin rail 29x2.2, no problems at all.they come in a variety colours,32 or 36 hole.
Halo 29” freedom disc rim
At 28mm wide. The rear wheel weighs 1.1 kg.. The fairly high weight means it’s not for the lighthearted, but it will be welcomed by heavier riders who do aggressive riding.
