Respectful, Responsible and Resilient Students in a Safe Learning Environment

From the Principal’s Desk Term 2 is off to a flying start, with so many wonderful learning and extra-curricular opportunities for our students to participate in.

Over the past few weeks Students in Years 4 and 6 have participated in the NSW Department of Education Check in Assessments. These assessments are conducted state-wide and provide timely feedback on how individual students and the school are progressing in relation to Reading and Numeracy compared to other Public Schools across NSW. The results from these assessments have been incredibly positive and highlight the improvements and focus of our students in these cohorts. Recently, I travelled to Quandialla Public School to participate in a Small Schools Community of Schools Pilot Project. This day of professional learning was spent analysing our current school assessment data and planning future targeted learning focus areas to drive improvement in student learning outcomes. On the day I worked with Principals School Leadership Team including Matt Gray and Mandy Crocker to identify these areas and will see the results implemented into daily teaching practice at Stockinbingal Public School. We have a busy term ahead, with many more sporting and learning activities set to occur throughout Term 2. Todd Kable Principal

K-2 Information Afternoon Mrs O’Rafferty will be hosting an information afternoon for all K-2 parents on Monday 17 May from 2:30-3:00pm. Using this afternoon, Mrs O’Rafferty will outline learning focus areas in her class and effective ways that parents and carers can support student literacy and numeracy learning in the early years. It is suitable for all parents and carers of K-2 students. If you are unable to make this session, please contact the school to arrange an alternative time, as the information provided is helpful in supporting student learning development. Olives, olives and more olives Last week, all students from K-6 picked olives from the olive trees. It was a very successful olive harvest with 5 buckets of olives picked from the trees. The students will be selling the olives later in the term as part of SRC fundraising, and have been researching and learning how to prepare the brine for olives. The students will next design labels and a name for their product.

Riverina Primary Orienteering Earlier this week students from 3-6 participated in the Riverina Orienteering at the Botanic Gardens in Wagga. Students used maps to navigate their way around the course and its multiple checkpoints. It wasn't always easy and wrong turns and mistakes were made. The resilience, skill and encouragement the students displayed on the day was second to none. Congratulations to Chloe and Georgia who placed runner up and third in the Girls 10-11 age group. Also special mention to Sam and Ruby who navigated the rugged terrain in a wheelchair, Ben for bravely doing the course alone and making sure he found EVERY checkpoint and, Owen and Roy for the fastest relay times. Every student and teacher was exhausted at the conclusion. But what a day it was! Well done kids School Cross County On Friday 14 May, Stockinbingal Public School will be conducting our Cross Country Carnival at the Stockinbingal Cricket Ground. Students have been training for this event in weekly sport sessions and have been developing their endurance and fitness. Parents are welcome to attend the Cross country, which will begin at approximately 11:45am. A permission note will also be sent out regarding this event. E-Safety Students from Year 3-6 recently completed a student online safety course to ensure that in today’s increasingly technological society, they are equipped with the necessary skills to navigate the internet safely and be responsible users of technology. These skills will continue to be a focus throughout the year. NAPLAN Students in Year 5 will be participating in NAPLAN Assessments beginning Tuesday Week 4 and Concluding on Thursday.

Zone Cross Country Students 8 years and over who are successful in completing the school Cross Country will have the chance to represent the school in Zone Cross Country on Tuesday 25 May in Harden. Rad Reading Reviews Each edition we will feature some book reviews by students at Stockinbingal Public School. These reviews may help you choose series that studens enjoy or even introduce you to some new reading that students can participate in. Merit Award Milestones Congratulations to the following students on their achievements in reaching the following Milestones. Georgia Reid- 180 awards Ziarah Hitchcock- 90 awards Dean Hitchcock- 20 awards ANZAC Day Ceremony Well done to all students who attended the Stockinbingal ANZAC Day Ceremony. Our captains, Ben Mayor and Roy Dunn, should be incredibly proud of their efforts in reading poems and sharing student learning around ANZAC Day. Well done. Both Roy and Ben also had the opportunity to meet the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack. School Uniform As we move into colder weather, it is important that all students have appropriate uniform and that each clothing item is clearly labelled with the name of the student. This ensures that students remain healthy, avoid illness and regularly attend school. Clothing Pool Sale The school has a number of uniform items that have been donated to the school over the past few years. In order to ensure these items do not go to waste, we will be selling items for a gold coin donation. There are a number of jumpers, shirts, track pants and other items that can be

purchased. Drop into the school front office from Wednesday- Friday and see Shelly. Regular Reading Reading is one of the most significant indicators of success. It is essential that students regularly participate in reading both at school and at home. Students particpate in weekly library session every Tuesday where they have access to quality texts that can be read at home and school. 10-15 minutes of reading practice every day can make the world of difference for students as they progress through their education. Tell Them From Me survey Students from year 4-6 will be participating in the Tell Them From Me Survey. This survey is a departmental survey that is anonymous and provideas an opportunity for students to reflect on their daily school lives. Parent surveys will occur later on in the year.
