Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who baked and came

along to our recent Macmillan Coffee morning.

Thank you also to team “SCA” both past and

present for their wonderful support – as always!

Macmillan wants to reach and improve the lives

of everyone living with cancer and to inspire

millions of others to do the same.

There are 2.5 million people living with cancer

in the UK today, and as more people live longer

with their cancer, this number is set to grow to 4

million by 2030. Macmillan want to make sure

they can provide support to everyone who needs

it, to help people affected by cancer feel more in

control of their lives.

We would also like to say well done to

Tallulah Noorbakhsh-Newton and Ciaran

Fitzpatrick from Y6 who were our official

photographers for the morning.

You can view some of the wonderful

photographs Tallulah and Ciaran took on our

school website: www.stillnessjs.lewisham.sch.uk

The coffee morning raised a grand total of

£635.00 which has been forwarded on to

Macmillan Cancer Support to help them

continue their wonderful work.

Congratulations Hazel!

On 1 October 2017, Hazel Demetriou took on the

London Bridges Challenge for Diabetes UK.

Diabetes UK is a leading charity that helps to care

for, connect with and campaign on behalf of people

affected by and at the risk of diabetes.

Hazel, together with other family members, started at

Battersea Bridge and walked over all the London

Bridges until the finish line at London Bridge itself.

Hazel raised £70.00 for this wonderful charity – well

done Hazel!

Congratulations Colin!

On 24 September 2017, Colin our Premises Manager,

joined over 92,000 other riders in 580 cities and 95

countries worldwide to take part in the Distinguished

Gentlemens Ride, in aid of raising funds and

awareness for Prostate Cancer and men’s mental

health.

The ride that Colin participated in was around

Central London, beginning and ending in the

Olympic Park, with over a 1000+ bikers dressed in

their finest tweeds etc… The sun shone and the sight

of all these dapper gents certainly turned some heads.

Colin raised £464.00, but the donation page is open

until 31 October 2017 if anyone would like to kindly

contribute further.

Stillness Monthly Brain Teasers

Y3 and Y4

The dots on opposite faces of a dice add up to 7.

1. Imagine rolling one dice.

The score is the total number of dots you can

see. You score 17.

Which number is face down?

How did you work out answer?

2. Imagine rolling two dice.

The dice do not touch each other. The score is

the total number of dots you can see. Which

numbers are face down to score 30?

Y5 and Y6

Attendance

Well done Warhol Class for achieving 99.12%

attendance from 5 September 2017 to

20 October 2017.

Which class will it be next month – can we beat

this with 100% attendance?

Steps for Stillness

The first Steps for Stillness welcome event was a

huge success. Despite rain threatening the sun

came out just as the event started.

Ms Bounds from the infant school (Lacrosse

champion of England!) led a warm up in the junior

school playground to a soundtrack of running

classics and then we were off; Mrs Nichol and

Ms Grimes on the finishing line ribbon.

We had over 100 families come and take part in the

run (2 gentle laps of Kings Ground), which

everyone completed, even the very wee members

of the school. We had a junior flyer who lapped

most of the adults and was first through the

ribbon. All children received a brilliant Steps for

Stillness t-shirt and certificate (Design by the very

talented Sabina - Sophie's mum).

As the weather was so good people stayed

afterwards and families enjoyed the free yoga

session from the wellness rooms and the bouncy

castles and tea and cakes.

The event raised over £2000.00 for the schools

with small bits of sponsorship still coming in. A

massive thanks to all the volunteers and local

businesses - Selcom, Chandos pub, Crofton Park

Opticians, Wellness Rooms, Babur, Co-op Crofton

Park, Arlo and Moe, Babur, Fred’s and

the Brockley Supermarket who sponsored the

event.

We hope to do it again next year.

Mr Harvey Jones “Read of the Month”

The bear's hat is gone, and he wants it back.

Patiently and politely, he asks the animals he

comes across, one by one, whether they have seen

it. Each animal says no, some more elaborately

than others.

However, just as the bear begins to despond, a

deer comes by and asks a simple question that

sparks the bear's memory and renews his search

with a vengeance.

Dinner Money

The dinner money from 30 October 2017 to 20

December 2017 will be £79.80. Can

parents/carers please make every effort to pay in

advance.

To improve the service we provide, Stillness Junior

School will no longer accept cash or cheques as

payment.

This can be done online using a very secure website called ParentPay. You all have your

individual ID and Password to access this facility.

Please note: if you wish to change your child

from packed lunch to school dinners or vice

versa please inform the school office in writing

to avoid being charged. Children can only

change this option at half term break.

Please Note: Dinner accounts that are more

than one week overdue or in arrears will result

in your child having to bring in a packed lunch

or going home for their lunch.

Stillness Junior School Website

work extremely hard to ensure that our website is

up to date. Please take a minute to have a look and
