Teens Need Vaccines.Talk to your doctor about the vaccines they recommend for teens. These key immunizations help protect BOTH boys and girls:

• Tdap series — helps protect against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).

• HPV series — helps protect against a disease that can cause some cancers.

• Meningitis — helps protect against the deadly meningococcal bacteria that can cause brain and spinal cord infections.

• Influenza — helps protect against the contagious respiratory illness that can result in hospitalization or death.

Get It in the Registry.Before kids can go to daycare, school, and college, they need proof they’ve had all their immunizations. They’ll also need these records to travel internationally. Ask your doctor about the Texas Immunization Registry. The registry stores your child’s vaccine records.

Use el Registro.Para poder ir a la guardería, a la escuela y a la universidad, los niños y jóvenes tienen que comprobar que han recibido todas sus vacunas. También necesitarán estos comprobantes para viajar fuera del país. Pregunte a su médico sobre el Registro de Inmunización de Texas. En este registro se guarda el historial de vacunas de su hijo.

Cumpla con el calendario.Las vacunas protegen a los niños contra 16 enfermedades dañinas. Los niños necesitan todas las dosis para estar protegidos. Esto quiere decir que sus hijos siguen necesitando vacunas mientras crecen. Seguir el calendario de vacunación es una de las maneras más efectivas de proteger a los niños.

Los adolescentes necesitan vacunas.Hable con su médico sobre las vacunas recomendadas para los adolescentes. Estas inmunizaciones clave ayudan a proteger TANTO a los chicos como a las chicas:

• La serie de vacunas Tdap. Ayuda a proteger contra el tétanos, la difteria y la pertusis (tos ferina).

• La serie contra el VPH. Ayuda a proteger contra una enfermedad que puede provocar varios cánceres.

• La vacuna contra la meningitis. Ayuda a proteger contra la bacteria meningocócica, que es mortal y puede crear infecciones cerebrales y de la médula espinal.

• La vacuna contra la influenza. Ayuda a proteger contra esta enfermedad respiratoria contagiosa que puede resultar en la hospitalización o muerte.
