Welcome Back To All Our Religious Education Students!!



Friday the 1st of November is All Saints Day; a Holy Day of Obligation. There will be a 5:00 PM Mass of anticipation Thursday October 31. There will be 3 Masses November 1st; 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Saturday the 2nd of November is All Souls day, when we remember all those loved ones that have gone to be with the Lord. There will be two Masses that day; at 9:00 AM in English, and the 7:00 PM Mass will be in Portuguese/Spanish. At the 9:00 AM Mass all the names of the departed souls buried from Corpus Christi Church in the past year will be announced. Please write the names of your deceased loved ones on the All Souls envelopes you received in the mail. There are additional envelopes by all the doors of the Church. We will keep these names on the Altar and by the Tabernacle for the whole month of November. There will be a 12:00 Noon All Souls Mass in Gaelic, presided over by Fr. Andrew O’Connor at the Irish American Center sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Our Guest Pantry is in need of all kinds of food. Thanks to your generosity, over the summer we supplied over 50 families with basic food needs. Items most needed include: Dried Beans, Rice, Pasta, Hot Cereal, Spaghetti Sauce, Soups, Tuna, Jelly and Canned Veggies. We also need paper goods, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and person care items. Thank you for your ongoing support for those in our community that need assistance with basic living needs.

Please mark in your calendars the date of Sunday 17 November at the 11:30 AM Mass, when we will celebrate the “Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick” for all those parishioners in need; the aged, the infirmed, those with serious medical or addiction issues, and those facing upcoming surgery are all welcome to receive the Sacrament of the Sick.

Fall Fundraiser Raffle Tickets

The Fall is the traditional time for our once-a-year parish fund-raiser, by way of the four raffle tickets we sent to each home. They are $25 each, which will go toward the final stages of getting our school building back in great shape for the good of all our children and young people. There will be three cash prizes ($1,500, $1,000, $500) to be drawn at a reception in Fitzgerald Hall on Sunday 17 November at 12:30 PM, following the 11:30 AM Mass. Please return the raffle ticket stubs and donations to the rectory by mail, in person, or in the collection baskets. If you need additional tickets, you can pick them up from the rectory or cut out the ticket



Pastor’s Notes

October is always such a magnificent month of transformation; with the falling leaves of Autumn arrayed in red, yellow, orange and gold. The air and sky take on a new clear and crisp feel; well before the cold and chill of winter set in. We are also so grateful to all of you participating in our Fall-Raffle, as our only major parish fund-raiser for the whole year. This month in the Catholic Church is always dedicated to our profound “Respect Life” belief; recognizing the beauty and dignity of every human person created in the image and likeness of God. From the moment of conception of every child in every mother’s womb; until the final breath we breathe in our bodies; we are sacred temples embraced with the Spirit of the living Lord of all creation.



October is also a special month honoring the Blessed Virgin Mother in our faith life. When you drive down Searing Avenue to see our newly renovated school building, I hope you notice the outdoor statue of Mary under the trellis. For years She appeared in a shade of dark gray. Thanks to our talented maintenance-man Bob Mondelo, Mary now is adorned in blue and gold surrounding Her sacred heart of love.

Finally, as we look forward to November, we give thanks for our Bishop John Barres who has given our parish permission to move the original “Last Supper” stained glass window into the Sanctuary above the Tabernacle (which you will remember we centered last year in the Church). 90%-plus of parishioners supported this change, based on the three-fold reasons: theologically proper for our name Corpus Christi; historically embracing our past church building; artistically beautifying our sacred space of worship. The “Resurrected Christ” currently in the sanctuary will be moved to a prominent place within the church body, along with the words, “You Together Are My Body”. Yours in Christ, Fr. Malcolm

E Deus não havia de fazer justiça aos seus eleitos, que por Ele clamam dia e noite, e iria fazê-los esperar muito?

A oração não poderá ser um modo de forçar Deus a fazer nossa vontade? Então, por que é que somos convidados a dirigirmo-nos a Ele com insistência? Que sentido tem a oração? A verdadeira oração não é a repetição de palavras, mas é o contato pessoal com Deus. Esse contato deve ser permanente. Em tudo na vida, devemos colocar Deus antes, falar com Deus e só depois tomar as nossas decisões. Jesus usa uma parábola muito interessante, que serve bem para os nossos dias. Quão difícil é para os pobres conseguir a justiça. Quantas vezes as pessoas desanimam e deixam de lutar para obter justiça. A nossa luta deve ser constante. A justiça dos homens pode falhar, mas não a de Deus. A nossa confiança em Deus deve ser total, e confiar na sua providência divina. Deus jamais nos deixará desamparados.
