Pastor’s Notes

This weekend throughout the Catholic world, the Church celebrates the solemnity of Pentecost Sunday; the gift and power of the Holy Spirit coming upon all peoples of the planet, 50 days after the Resurrection of Christ. Pentecost is the promise of Jesus Himself, who vows to be with us forever. And it is the Spirit of the Lord who has sustained all Christians through all suffering and struggles; in the past, now, and into the future. Pentecost represents the birth of the Church. How appropriate it is for Corpus Christi to be opened this Sunday, since the closing of public Masses on March 16th because of COVID-19. We began open daily Masses on Memorial Day, and will continue as long as the virus remains in check. Please help in this effort by wearing masks, purifying hands and sitting separately in Church. We are offering now Confessions, Anointings, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals and Memorial Masses (especially for people who died these past few months, and were not given proper burial rites). Also we are hoping to schedule soon Masses for First Holy Communion and Confirmation for our young people who missed out on these special Sacraments. Please recognize that the governor and New York State regulate the number of people we can allow in the Church at any one time for safety reasons. Equally important is to understand that the Diocesan Bishop will determine when we are allowed to distribute Holy Communion once again. For now, we will continue to video-tape for internet access our three Masses in English, Spanish and Portuguese. We encourage elderly persons and the vulnerable to watch Mass at home, and to receive “Spiritual Communion”. Bishop Barres has extended the dispensation to all Catholics from attending Sunday worship, so that you are not committing a mortal sin by missing Mass. Spiritual Communion is the practice of an ardent desire for union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, and a loving embrace as though we had already received Him. Please pray this “Act of Spiritual Communion” during the Mass when you cannot receive: “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never let me be separated from You…….Amen” Yours in Christ, Father Malcolm

Letter to the Catholic Faithful of the Diocese of Rockville Centre From Bishop John O. Barres

Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 24, 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

In Saint John’s Gospel this weekend, the Seventh Sunday of Easter, we proclaim that “Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you...’.”

In reflecting on this passage, I immediately began to think about our priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, who glorify the Father by serving the faithful daily. These are enormously trying times for all of us, but our priests and pastors have risen to the occasion in so many creative ways. They serve the people of God through on-line Masses, blessing homes in their parishes, curbside adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and much more.

I am so grateful to each and every one of our priests who are working tirelessly to serve the people in their parishes while they are helping grieving families and tending to the sick. However, as they are doing all of this, we are not able to gather our congregations on weekends and therefore, are not receiving the offertory collections that are so very important to the financial health of our parishes.

Appreciating the anxieties you are facing, we urge you to please continue supporting your parish with weekly offertory donations. These funds are critical for the continued operation of your parish. Every day, your parish provides for the pastoral and spiritual care of its parishioners. It is there in the happiest moments in your life - weddings, baptisms, first Communions - and is a source of comfort during the most challenging times such as our current crisis or the death of a loved one. There are senior services, food pantries, youth ministries, schools, and on-going religious education. All of this depends on you! We must also prepare to fully reemerge when the crisis is over and we are able to join together again as the Body of Christ. We ask that you please consider making the sacrifice, at a minimum, to continue your current weekly level of support.

One easy way to do so is through your parish's online giving provider. Your parish may have an online giving account that can be accessed through the parish website. We have also developed a “Text to Give” option for each of our parishes enabling you to make a weekly donation on your smart phone. To access information regarding this innovative form of giving, please go to the following website https://www.drvcmissionarygrowth.org/text2give. I know that the faithful on Long Island understand this and will and respond as you always do in times of crisis.

Please know that you and your family are remembered in my daily prayers and Masses.

Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend John O. Barres Bishop of Rockville Centre

Corpus Christi Sunday

14 June 2020 Let’s hope and pray our Parish Feast Day will be a wonderful experience of faith in

Jesus Christ, to bring us all back to our beloved Parish Church for Mass and Eucharistic procession (if it is safe, legal, and the virus continues to decline).

Fathers’ Day Sunday 21 June 2020

Our Church Community of Corpus Christi is so blessed to have so many gifted dads and granddads, who imitate the example of St. Joseph as the foster-father of Jesus, husband to Mary, and protector of the Holy Family. Like Joseph, the carpenter of Nazareth, these men work by their words and deeds in building up the Body of Christ here in Mineola. We will pray for and honor all the fathers and grandfathers of our parish family, at all the Masses during the month of June. Please write their names (both living and deceased) on the envelopes received in the mail, or additional envelopes by the doors of the church. We will keep them on the Altar and by the Tabernacle, to remind us of our fathers’ perpetual love and prayers.

Pentecost Sunday

31 May 2020

This weekend marks the Solemnity of Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles; the very birth of the Church. A “strong-driving wind” accompanied by “tongues of fire” were the manifestations of the power

and the gift of the Spirit of Christ.

May the Holy Spirit truly give us all a new birth of life throughout all the earth! May the Spirit of Jesus bring us out of the darkness of COVID-19, and lead us into the light of God’s peace and love! May the Paraclete help all people of every nation, language and culture, to understand one another in the spirit of truth and freedom!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who

fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession,

was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother. To you do

I come; before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise

not on my petition, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Mary, Mother of the Church, Pray for Us!

Hoje celebramos a festa deste dom do Ressuscitado
