For those of you who don’t know, when Stevenage was designed it was with leisure at its heart with numerous facilities for local people to enjoy, from the theatre, swimming pool, Fairland Valley Park which extends to around 120 Acres of parkland and water ways and the constantly evolving leisure and retail parks. In the new town centre there are shopping facilities inside the Westgate Shopping Centre and outside in Queensway. The Old Town High Street offers a different, more relaxed environment of shops and cafes. There are numerous food stores across the area as well. You can walk or cycle around the town rarely being in direct contact with anything bigger than a moped that has an engine, by using the extensive network of 45 miles of footpaths and cycle ways that link the residential and commercial areas in the Old Town and New Town together. There are good transport links to the wider world, being next to the A1 helps if you drive. If you are a commuter into London, the mainline station has regular services (7-8 at peak times) running into Kings Cross in an average of 20 minutes. Stevenage Borough Council does not operate “on street parking permit schemes” on the public highway. On street parking in the old town high street is limited to 3 hours. There are some time restrictions at the leisure park and at the retail park when Stevenage FC play home games.

Transport

Trains Stevenage Railway Station The station is located on the east coast mainline offering services into London Kings Cross in around 20 minutes & London Moorgate in 45 mins.

Northwards, direct services run to Peterborough, Grantham, Sheffield, Leeds and further north to Hull, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

The bus station is located near the town square a short walk from the main new town shops, theatre and railway station (via footbridge)

Canterbury Way Playing Fields This park which can be found in the north of Stevenage is situated between Canterbury Way, Ripon Road and Great Ashby Way. The 12 acres of parkland has a mixture of sports pitches, children's play area and informal open space.

Chells Park Chells park, to the east of Stevenage, lies between Gresley Way and Ferrier Road. The 14 acre park is a mixture of sports pitches and informal open space.
