Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Biblical Counseling

The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected

sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. My son, beware of anything beyond

these.”Eccl. 12:11-12a

For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit,

sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.Mark 7:21-22

Biblical view of the problem and the solution

The Problem: Sin, which originates in the heart, but affects everything. This is the bad news.

The Solution: The good news is that God has entered into our broken world to provide a way out!

Page 19: Steps at The Village: Overview Reformission Ministry

The Good News is Not:

RELIGION: Our vain attempts to please God through good works and trying to be good.

We have all become like one who is unclean,  and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.

Is. 64:6

Page 20: Steps at The Village: Overview Reformission Ministry

The Good News is:

THE GOSPEL: God the Father sent God the Son (Jesus) who, in love, entered our fractured world by becoming a man. He dwelt among sinners, lived a perfect life and willingly laid down His life as a perfect sacrifice in order to absorb the wrath of God for sinners who would repent and be saved by grace through faith in Him. Death could not hold Him, and He was raised on the third day and appeared over a period of 40 days to many eyewitnesses. He ascended into heaven and sends God the Holy Spirit as a sign, hope, help and seal to dwell in the hearts of those He calls, justifies, sanctifies and glorifies. We look forward with hope-filled expectation when Christ will come again in glory!

Page 21: Steps at The Village: Overview Reformission Ministry

The Good News is:

Christ did what we cannot in overcoming sin and death and darkness. Therefore, rather than trying to have a righteousness of our own, we instead have the opportunity to trust in His redemptive plan!

The Greatest Command

Jesus answered, "The most important is, Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.“

Mark 12:29-31

Redeeming Recovery

no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ

1 Cor. 3:11

Redeeming Recovery

For it stands in Scripture:  "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,  a cornerstone chosen and precious,

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame."  So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not

believe,  "The stone that the builders rejected

 has become the cornerstone,” and

"A stone of stumbling,  and a rock of offense."

1 Peter 2:6-8
