Stepping Into Internship Program - Position Description The Australian Network on Disability’s Stepping Into program is a paid internship scheme that matches talented university students with disability with roles in leading Australian businesses. Position Title Victoria Police – Legal Support Officer Location 637 Flinders Street Victoria Police Centre Position Duration Minimum 152 hours June / July 2019 Position Overview As legal services department is responsible for number of different areas, the student could be exposed to working in areas such as Legal Projects, Legal Business Services, Legal Support Officer or working within the Prosecutions Court Branch. The duties that the student will perform will be mostly clerical and administrative support roles within these areas. Being involved within Legal Services will provide a great learning experience for students that are currently undertaking any form of study within the Legal field. They will have exposure to a number of different areas and functions within Legal Services and will have the opportunity to learn from experienced members in these areas that are more than happy to act as a mentor to these students. As we are working toward a more diverse and inclusive working environment we would like to have the opportunity to host an intern to show them how Legal Services functions, how the work we do benefits our society and hope to assist a student on their endeavours whilst studying. Position Overview

As legal services department is responsible for number of different areas, the student could be exposed to working in areas such as Legal Projects, Legal Business Services, Legal Support Officer or working within the Prosecutions Court Branch.

The duties that the student will perform will be mostly clerical and administrative support roles within these areas.

Being involved within Legal Services will provide a great learning experience for students that are currently undertaking any form of study within the Legal field. Role Accountabilities will vary depending on the teams where the intern works with a range of duties outlined below:

Provide general paralegal assistance to Police Prosecutors and Police Lawyers.

Assist in court preparation, including general document management.

Perform general administrative duties.

Draft correspondence and court documents.

Support the customer service needs of Victoria Police and its strategies are adhered to.

Undertake legal research and analysis on a range of issues, including existing and emerging areas of law.

Perform other duties and involvement in projects as directed.

Undertake a range of administrative functions to support the Region/Department/Command including the maintenance and management of various records, registers and systems.

Perform a variety of computerised activities including data entry, typing and word processing.

Attend enquiries from internal and external stakeholders; provide initial information and advice as required.

Receive, record and distribute mail and correspondence.

Process routine financial, HR and general administrative items as directed.

Perform a range of support services, including the preparedness and ability to handle property and resources.

Provide general office support tasks including the operation and maintenance of office equipment.

Prepare routine correspondence on a range of administrative matters and attend to follow-up procedures as required.

Eligibility Requirements

Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree

Australian citizens and permanent residents only

Identify as having disability

Candidates may be required to undergo a background check security clearance
