Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College
and Careers (PARCC)
Consortium of 20 states working together to develop a common set of
3-12 assessments in English and Math anchored in what it takes to be
ready for college and careers.
PARCC Assessments
• 2014-2015 school year for grades K-12• Build a pathway to college and career readiness– measures the full range of knowledge and skills students
need to be career and college ready or on track toward that goal, through performance based tasks unlike traditional paper and pencil bubble tests of the past.
• Provide teachers information to inform instruction and student support
• Model the kind of work students are already doing in classrooms throughout the school year.
ELA and Math PARCC Assessment
• English Language Arts/Literacy– Look much deeper at student writing abilities and critical-
thinking skills.– Reported in three major categories:
• (1) ELA/Literacy – a composite of reading and writing scores• (2) Reading and comprehending complex texts independently
(reading)• (3) Writing effectively when using and/or analyzing sources
(writing)
• Math– Solve complex/multi-step problems, show their work, and
demonstrate how they solved the problem.
