Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program The kitchen garden program engages students to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal, nutritious food. Through the hands on activities of both cooking and gardening, students learn life skills and at the same time foster an appreciation of wholesome food that they themselves have created. The program offers wonderful satisfaction for the students to grow from seed to harvest to table. It’s busy times in the garden, part of our upcoming working bee will be invigorating our soil in the productive beds to get sections ready for planting Autumn crops of soft herbs, braccias, perineal leaves, podded pea tee pees and more. Wheelbarrow licence testing and tool certification is underway and the students have been rigorously participating. In the kitchen classes both, 3’s and 4’s have had a wonderful attitude about creating and trying the menu with lots of excitement and discussion about ‘how delicious’ the meals are. In the coming weeks we will scrutinise the rations of the first fleet and put together a menu with only complimentary ingredients from the garden, true to life. In the coming weeks we will scrutinise the rations of the first fleet and put together a menu with only complimentary ingredients from the garden, true to life.
