MUSIC MAGAZINE Step by step guide

Kerrie Bush

Page 2: Step bt step gudie

There are my first three attempts of my magazine. I have tried to be consistent with the magazine being similar to my drafts layout.

I have used my main image of a model which shows clear conventions of the country genre with the cowboy hat, ukulele and countryside background. Also the masthead is iconography of the country genre as it is stereotypical typography for the country genre.

In there three versions I have change the front to decide which is best for the headings.

Choosing between different colour palettes of different typography is to make the text stand out to the audience and can be easily read, for; ‘music poster of…..’ ‘Brand new album…..’ and ‘plus: inside scoops…’

In these two versions I have done the final alterations such as the ‘Charlotte page’ have made it smaller. Which I said I would do in my peer review videos. Also the colour ‘scoops on all the stars….’ has changed to a much brighter colour because the black blended into the background.

I created my own image ‘free!’ on Photoshop instead of using a clipart image from the internet.

Before actually writing my article I concentrated on the layout of the double page spread before writing because it would give me more of an idea of what to write about as well.I used black boxes to show where the article and quotes from the article would go so I knew how it would be lay out.

Also on this versions I have chosen the masthead typography for my double page spread.

On this version I have put an effect on the masthead typography to make it bolder and 3D looking to stand out to the audience.

I have started to include a different range of styles of typography.

I have organised and arranged the layout of the article text and also I have began to include subheadings and separating paragraphs for each subheadings.

In these two versions I have change and experimented with different layouts, colour palette and house style.

These two versions are nearly finished version, am still deciding if I should put quotes into text boxes because they make them more clearer but I still think that it looks a bit out place in text boxes and am still not sure about the text boxes.

The masthead is the same typography as front cover masthead as it shows the iconography of the country genre. Also I called it ‘Country’ because it’s a alternative to just ‘contents.’

Also I used guidelines to help me lay out the contents page and so I know where to put the images.

Page 11: Step bt step gudie

I change the masthead title to ‘Country Contents’ because there was a lot of dead space at the top so I include ‘Country’ as well. I have changed images so that they are laid out in a much more organised layout and I have created borders.

Each image has page numbers so that the audience can link it to the subheadings which is easy for them to understand and read. Also some small information on the image about the article so that they both relate, this is a common convention of a magazine.

I switched the layout of two images because there are two images of people with guitars were next to each other and they look too similar so I arranged it differently.

This is my final contents page . This layout of the text is very simple but effective as the heading ‘Features’ ‘Exclusive’ and ‘Regulars’ are in the brown text box which shows the house style because it’s the same colour as the subheadings.
