Belgian Scientists have Successfully Created Lung Tissue from Stem Cells
By Dominic Ansel, Giancarlo Schliemann, and Vahimir Emile
Just recently Belgian Scientists have successfully taken embryonic stem cells, cells from an early stage fetus, and have been able to recreate human lung tissue with them
It was thought that lung tissue could only regenerate itself. Stem cells can help
regenerate lung tissue much faster, and more effectively.
How embryonic stem cell research works
The Pros and Cons
Even though stem cells help regenerate lung tissue, the do not completely heal it
Stem cells have great potential for a way to help tissue regeneration, but they have been
limited because they do not produce enough growth factors after the are transplanted into
the body
The stem cells help generate blood vessels, allowing the tissue to survive and regrow
Scientists have also been able to create heart tissue with stem cells
