    RAID Recovery

RAID, or Redundant Array of Independent Disks is a storage device made up of multiple disks. A

RAID, connected to system, is shown as one logical disk unit in the operating system. RAID

provides better data access, data safety and fault tolerance. RAID 5 is one of the levels of RAID

technology, that uses distributed parity and distributed data technique. At least 3 disks are

required to construct RAID 5. RAID 5 can afford to have one disk damaged while running. Stellar

Phoenix Windows Data Recovery supports data recovery from RAID 5.

    Recovery Options

Windows Data Recovery provides you different options to recover your data. Quick Recovery,

Deleted File Recovery, Advanced Recovery, and Raw Recovery are the four recovery methods

available in this software. All methods are different as they apply different scanning process.

    Quick Recovery

    Deleted Recovery

    Advanced Recovery

    Raw Recovery

  • 7/31/2019 stellar tech user guide

    65/96

    Quick Recovery

Quick Recovery option of Windows Data Recovery software can perform a quick scan on

selected existing volumes, lost volumes, and on removable media. You can select only one

volume at a time for quick scan. This scan method is fast and efficient. You will find almost all

data by performing a quick recovery on selected volume or removable media. You can also load

an image file to perform quick recovery.

  • 7/31/2019 stellar tech user guide

    66/96

    Deleted Recovery

You can recover files that are deleted from a volume or removable media by using deleted file

recovery process. The scan result lists only files that are deleted from the selected drive.

  • 7/31/2019 stellar tech user guide

    67/96

    Advanced Recovery

You can recover data from a formatted volume or removable media by using 'Advanced

Recovery' option of Windows Data Recovery. If a volume or removable media is formatted and all

data is lost from that drive, you can recover that data performing this type of recovery.

In addition, you can scan volume either as FAT, NTFS or exFAT. For example, before formatting,

the file system of the volume was FAT. You had formatted the volume and created new volume

with NTFS file system. You can scan the new volume as FAT such that all files will be found

during scanning process. Also, if before formatting the volume the file system was FAT and you

selected scanning as NTFS then scanning process still finds data from that volume.

  • 7/31/2019 stellar tech user guide

    68/96

    Raw Recovery

Raw recovery allows you to recover data from hard disk, pen drive or volumes of a hard disk. It

does a comprehensive scan of the volume to recover each and every bit of lost or deleted data. It

searches for lost files on the basis of file signature. This recovery option recovers everything that

is found in the selected source. This option is specially helpful in case of severely corrupted

volume. You can select a source or define a region for scanning process. However, you cannot

select region from a volume while performing raw recovery on the volume.

A long list of file types is provided in the raw recovery file type option. You can add file type, if the

required file type is not listed in the file type list.

    Resume Recovery

Resume recovery allows you to restart recovery by using either

    Recover using Saved Scan Information

Recover using Hard Disk or Volume Image

Both, the scan information file and image of a drive are saved as an image file (.img). You can

use an image file to restart recovery at any time.

You should save scan information file and image file of a drive at different locations with proper

naming such that you can easily retrieve the required file for restarting recovery.

Raw Recovery: Scan is done for files according to file signatures. This

scan is slower than Quick Recovery but gives better results.
