Welcome to a New Year and new season. The Board has come up with some new ideas that we hope will encourage you to

participate, at least a little more, in league activities. First off, we have three “Special Events” planned for this season. The first is a Doubles Cricket, scheduled for February 27th, with the winners being declared the “2019 Cricket Champions”.The second “Special Event” will be “Triples Chicago”, an all-league, seed-ed blind draw, scheduled for March 27th, this will be a catered event (NOT PIZZA). The third “Special Event” will be 501 Singles, scheduled for April 24th, with the winner being declared the “2019 501 Singles Champion”. Cricket Singles and 501 Doubles will be held during the Fall Season. We will also be having an event that is OPEN TO ALL DART PLAYERS.This will be a “Charity Shoot” in mem-ory of ALL DART PLAYERS that have passed on, with special consideration to SFDA /SFDL players. Last year we had a memorial shoot for Doug Hatch that rose over $400.00 that, at his request, benefitted S.F. Jr. Giants. It was such a success, the board thought it important enough to continue with a “Charity Event” benefiting a different charity each year. We will be looking at a Saturday in June for this event, with invitations being sent out to other area leagues. (QUAD BOARDS)So we’re ready to start our season on January 30th, we have, at this writing 21 teams, 3 divisions, that’s 14 weeks of division play, 3 “Special Events” 1 make-up week and 2 weeks for play-offs and finals. Prepare yourself for 20 weeks of “HIGH POWERED DARTS”, SOCIALIZING and FUN.For you newer players that may be interested in improving your game, I make two suggestions. 1) Watch the better players in your division, what is it that makes them better? Stance, arm motion, concentration, practice? 2) We use Dart Connect for our matches, sign up yourself $24.00 per year, practice against the dif-ferent levels, YOUR GAME WILL IMPROVE!Best wishes to you all,

- Tom Carroll, President SFDL.

Darts Power! by Robert Adams - ITOOur dart organization is now 46 years young! We’ve seen male and female members climb the rankings in the USA to make national names for themselves, people like Pa-tricia “Killer” Miller, Chris “The Great White” White, Chris “Lightning” Lim and Alex Plachutin got to play (and beat!) the great Phil “The Power” Taylor in a tournament held in Canada, while Phil was in his prime (as was Alex!). While the heights of darts is a great place to aim (pun intended), the majority of our members are everyday folks who play for camaraderie, unwinding from a stressful routine, to meet new people and make new friends. No matter what your commitment level towards darts, we can help guide you to the level you’d like to be at or simply help you thrive at the level you are on.

I started my 20+ year darts journey because at the bar where I worked, the softball team was no longer being sponsored. “But we do have a dart team”, the owner told me. So after joining the lowest division, D2, our team won and moved up to D1, from there I got the “dart bug”, bought different flights, changed my throw, went from 28 grams to what I now shoot 23 grams, eventually our team ended up in A2 Division playing against the top A1 team for the ‘A’ trophy! But that’s a different story.

In 1999, four years into my darts tenure, I joined the Board of Directors as a “Member At Large” these four spots on the board are reserved for enthusiastic dart league members who want to help out with the duties of running the darts league and at times, provide feedback and ideas to help the league run more smoothly. My big idea, at that time, was to have a presence on this newfan-gled thing called the internet. My proposal for a website was unanimously voted for and here we are 19 years into the future!

My point to this whole column is that darts can be any-thing you want it to be. A place for a drink and some friendly competition or a starting path to the World Series of Darts. It’s up to you! Oh yeah, one more thing, this board’s in need of a few more Members At Large. Just mention you’re interested to any current board member.

Happy New Years All!
