steel hardness conversion
TRANSCRIPT
Steel Hardness ConversionBelow is a conversion table for the hardness of the steel.
The values listed are for reference only. There are some parameters that could change the
conversion. For example, the HV is only testing on a focused small spot, where the HRC/HB would
have a test result from a much bigger area.

Surface Roughness ConversionIn Taiwan and China, usually we use metric "Ra" system for the surface roughness
measurement.
In USA, you can simply divide the inch roughness number by 40 to get the metric Ra number.
For example, if the inch drawing specifies surface roughness 32.
32 / 40 = Ra 0.8
Surface roughness can be specified in different way of measure. Below is a conversion
table of them.

Metal Standard ConversionMaterial Standard Conversion ASTM / DIN / JIS / BS / GB China / ISO / NF:
Below is a conversion table of the most frequently used materials in different national standards, as to the composition of the
materials, please refer to “Metal Material Composition”.
- Materials in different national standards might be slightly different in some detail compositions. It would be better to specify
which standard it is conforming to in the quotation and the purchase order.
- Due to the size limit of this web page, some of the materials could not be listed here. For example, some sheet metal
stamping materials CRS plates, Galvanized plates..If you would need more information, please contact SINAMA.
- Same material but in different shape or form might have different material numbers or names.
- The national standard of USA is ANSI, however ASTM is more frequently used

- There are a lot more materials available, but due to the size limit of this web page, we could
only make a list of the most frequently used ones.
- Also due to the size limit of this web page, the mechanical properties and some detail
requirements of the composition could not be included in this list.
- Materials could have different names when the form/utility is changed. For example, SS304
could be specified as CF-8 when used for casting processes.
- Any further information, please contact SINAMA, we will have our metallurgist to answer
your questions.
