Steel Building Causes Arizona Man to Kick up his Heels By the light of the moon in Prescott, AZ, Fred Kester’s neighbors shouldn’t be surprised if they hear a little hootin’ and hollerin’ coming from the newly built steel building in his backyard. While not many people build a garage/workshop that can also double as a dance hall, Kester is a man that loves to dance. “I’ve been taking dance classes for years and thought it would be cool to be able to dance at home,” says Kester, who anticipates his party-goers will either be doing the country two step or a waltz at his first steel barn dance. “I’m sure I will be able to fit 20 people dancing in there once I take out my two cars and hide all the tools in the cabinets. My plan is to host a barn dance a couple times a year unless I meet a "permanent" dance partner.” Although Kester only parks two cars in the steel arch building, he says there is room enough to fit four. Having that kind of space in a building that is both strong and visually appealing were foremost in his mind when he set out in October 2009 to find a company that had what he was looking for.

Steel Building Causes Arizona Man to Kick up his Heels

By the light of the moon in Prescott, AZ, Fred Kester’s neighbors shouldn’t be surprised if

they hear a little hootin’ and hollerin’ coming from the newly built steel building in his

backyard. While not many people build a garage/workshop that can also double as a dance

hall, Kester is a man that loves to dance.

“I’ve been taking dance classes for years and thought it would be cool to be able to dance at

home,” says Kester, who anticipates his party-goers will either be doing the country two

step or a waltz at his first steel barn dance. “I’m sure I will be able to fit 20 people dancing

in there once I take out my two cars and hide all the tools in the cabinets. My plan is to host

a barn dance a couple times a year unless I meet a "permanent" dance partner.”

Although Kester only parks two cars in the steel arch building, he says there is room enough

to fit four. Having that kind of space in a building that is both strong and visually appealing

were foremost in his mind when he set out in October 2009 to find a company that had

what he was looking for.

“I searched the web and SteelMaster Buildings came up more prominently than others,”

says Kester. “The person who helped me gave me good discounts and was friendly. He also

stored the building for more than six months while I prepared the sight.”

Because his yard contained large boulders that needed to be moved to create space for the

building, Kester hired someone with a track hoe to accomplish that task. After that he had

404 tons of dirt hauled in and compacted so that the building site was properly prepared

and then hired someone to pour and finish the concrete slab. “The county insisted on me

getting an engineer to design the concrete slab, which set me back six weeks and $800,”

says Kester. “The day we were able to start building was a beautiful fall day, and we had it

up and all the bolts in in five hours. I expect to get the front and back on and the cabinets

built in the next few months.”

“The quick and easy construction of our garage kits makes them ideal for the “do-it-

yourselfer” like Mr. Kester,” says Michelle Wickum, the director of marketing for SteelMaster

Buildings. “The unique design of these prefab residential garage buildings provides security

and durability against fire, snow, and hurricane-force winds, while remaining aesthetically

pleasing. Also, with 100 percent usable space, our customers have the flexibility to truly

customize the inside of their SteelMaster building, which includes hanging lighting, running

conduit, building shelving, adding a loft, insulating, and/or heating/cooling the building.”

Now that Kester’s building is almost complete, what piece of advice does he offer to future

owners of a SteelMaster? “Ask questions, check out other building in your area, and check

county requirements for foundation and slab before you get started,” says Kester.

“Our goal is to ensure that people who buy a SteelMaster building are so happy with the

results that they will all consider joining Mr. Kester in doing a little dance because they are

so happy when everything is said and done,” says Wickum.

With thousands of satisfied customers, including buildings located in every state in the

United States, on six continents, and in more than 40 overseas countries, SteelMaster takes

pride in knowing its steel buildings have earned the favor of people like Mr. Kester.
