BRIEF FOR SECRETARY (TOURISM)

A detailed brief for the forthcoming investment conference has been

furnished to the SDA. A list of the potential sites, which STC intends to

develop for recreation and income generation is reproduced as under:-

CONCEPT PAPER FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF KUND PARK

DISTRICT SWABI

Kund Park is located on the confluence of river Kabul & river Indus near

Attock Bridge on the main G.T road between Peshawar & Islamabad. Due

to its enviable location the park is visited by tens of thousands of people

particularly by school children from Peshawar and Islamabad & adjoining

districts of Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshehra in NWFP and Attock &

Rawalpindi of Punjab Province. The total area of the park is about 802

kanal. The open lawns of the Kund Park contain variety of trees with

viewing decks for enjoying scenic flow of river Indus and river Kabul

from the same point.

The park also lodges a beautiful wild life park where some rare

species like that of bear, leopard, deer & birds have been kept for

public interest.

To enhance the beauty of the park some additional facilities i.e.

leveling & land scapping, construction of bridges & stairs facilities

along side river Kabul & river Indus are required. The detail of each

facility is discussed along with estimated cost as under with the

proposal that the either the federal government may release funds

for them or private sector may implement them on lease basis: -

1. Bridge on river Kabul

A bridge for light vehicular traffic is required to be constructed for

restoration of direct access to the Kund Park. The approximate cost

on bridge on river Kabul has been worked out to be Rs. 100 million.

2. Supporting wall and stairs on the bank of two rivers

The length of the bank of the river Indus on the east and river Kabul

on south-west is about 2 km. STC has planned to raise supporting

wall and construct stairs containing over head shelter for the

tourists along side the river Kabul & river Indus. The cost estimates

on this facility have been to be calculated Rs. 100 million.

3. Leveling & land scaping.

The total area of the park is 802 kanal which needs to be rearranged

scientifically, making that plan besides raising variety of trees and

ornamental plants. Estimated cost on leveling & land scapping is

Rs.50 million.

4. Tourist Hostel.

Kund Park is lacking appropriate accommodation facility for

tourists. Hence, some suitable structure for lodging of the tourists

is required. The Corporation is of the view that two hostels one

each overlooking river Kabul and other river Indus are required for

Kund Park. Estimated cost of the two hostels is Rs.100 million.

5. Construction of Restaurants

Two restaurants with modern facilities are proposed to be

constructed i.e. one on river Kabul and another on Indus. Each

one having tuck shops and souvenir shops for the tourists

attraction would give remarkable look. The estimated cost for

construction of two restaurants with the additional facility of tuck

shops & souvenir shops is Rs. 100 million.

6. Children Park.

Children Park would be a major facility for school going children as

usually school students visit Kund park in group form. The

estimated cost for development of Children Park is Rs.10 million.

7. Rehabilitation/restoration of old building

Funds are required for the repair of the old buildings i.e. one Rest

house, 4 huts, golf club, foot path & toilets. The estimated cost on

this facility is Rs.10 million.

8. Boating & Canoeing facility

Kund Park is a unique place for boating & canoeing as it is

surrounded by famous two rivers i.e. Indus & Kabul. This facility will

require funds to the tune of Rs. 10 million.

At Shahi (Dir Lower), the STC has one small rest house on 30

Kanal land. This Shahi Can be developed as Summer Resort once

we provide suitable building, and provide electricity by installing a

small hydel power station. Estimated cost is Rs. 200 million

10. Summer Resort at Kumrat (Dir Upper):

Kumrat is one of the most beautiful valleys of the country. STC

has 5 kanal plot in Kumrat. A summer resort at the cost of Rs. 50

million is required.

SHORT TERM DEVELOPEMNT PLAN

The following schemes need immediate attentions for implementation:

During summer, NWFP, is visited frequently by the people of other provinces.

The local tourists in the company of their families face difficulty owing to the

absence of road side facilities.

The following TFC on GT Road, Indus Highway, Silk Road (Kara Kuram

Highway) and Nowshera – Chakdara – Chitral (NCC) are required to be

established :-

2 tourist coaches, 6 tourist jeeps and 2 Cars,
