• Practical help and support to local people who find themselves struggling in winter
• Support for groups to undertake this role
The factors
• Fear of falling
• Too ill to go out
• Family members not able to reach them
• Feeling the cold
The problem
• Fear of increased fuel bills – cold homes• Unable to reach shops – run out of essential
foods and medicines• Lack of company – lonely, uncared-for
All factors influence health and well-being
The solution
• Clear snow – create access to vehicle• Collect and take to community venue• Deliver essential supplies/hot meals• Call to check on well-being• Other ideas?
Help for your group
• Initial £500.00 available to groups
• Simplified application form
• Fast processing
• Follow-up funding if needed
Helpful hints
• Be clear about who you can help i.e. geographic area or target group of people
• Be realistic –how many volunteers do you have? What can they do?
• Could you accept referrals? What is the contact number?
What you must do
• Keep receipts of items purchased, expenses paid etc.
• Keep simple records – Who has been helped? What help has been given? How often?
• Who in your organisation has been involved? Volunteers? Staff? Group members?
