Issues in Data Availability
• Collection of data on Muslims under DISE – DISE is collecting data on Enrolment of Muslims
in Elementary Education from 2005-06 and also on medium of instruction, number of madrasa schools (recognized and unrecognized) with enrolment
– From 2012-13 onwards data enrolment in secondary education is being collected
– From this it is possible to examine trends in enrolment, madrasa enrolment as proportion of Muslim enrolment, Muslim enrolment by medium of instruction, dropouts, transition rates, gender parity, etc

• Issues in Quality and consistency of data
– The quality and consistency of data needs further improvement.
– Calculation of transition rates, dropout rates require more consistent data

Issues in Data Availability Other Sources
• The All India Survey of School Education also provides data on Muslims– Enrolment data on Muslims for the year 2002-03 are
available from 7th Survey.– The data from 8th survey with reference date
September 2009 are yet to be made available
• National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO)– NSSO also provides data on participation of various
religious minorities in education – 61st (2004-05), 64th (2007-08) and 66th (2009-10)
rounds of NSS collected data on participation of minorities in education. NSSO
