Design Report

The design report should clearly explain the engineeringand design process

The process for each system could include:

1> Objectives>

3> Alternatives considered

4>The result of design calculations

5>Stress Analysis

6>Testing

Design reports must follow the format for SAE TechnicalPapers

Expectations

During design evaluation team members areexpected to be able to fully explain and discuss

all aspects of their vehicle’s design and thera ona e e n e r es gn ec s ons.

Teams that are refused judging because of

incompleteness will receive zero points forDesign Evaluation

Recommendations

Focus on innovation and originality but only at maximum 2areas, Stick to basics otherwise

Keep in mind that simplicity in maintenance and betterfunctional ability will fetch you better points

While short listing the alternatives for a particular systemmake a matrix to rate each alternate on manufacturability, weight, driver safety, cost, serviceability and ride

Put the same in the design report and keep it ready at time of evaluation

At the time of evaluation, make a note of specifications of eachsystem and display it at concerned locations

Production cost

The production cost is the actual calculation of points given to each team based on the team’s

cost compared to the cost of other teams.

Your production cost score will be calculated asfollows:

Score = 40 x [(Max Cost – Your Cost)/(MaxCost – Lowest Cost)]

Format & deadlines

The cost report must be submitted electronically in twodifferent documents:

1.) The Microsoft Excel format, using the supplied template postedon the Mini Baja important documents page

2.) A PDF file with all of the pictures, receipts, and any othersupporting documentation.

The cost report file must be named as follows:

Cost # 141_ DCoE

Cost reports arriving after the deadline will be penalized ten(10) points per day up to a maximum of one hundred (100)-points.

Also, note that the maximum penalty for late or non-submissionexceeds the total number of points for the event.

Recommendations From day 1, start putting the required data in the cost sheets

Buy bills on retail price i.e. do not include tax in the bills

Take quotations of the alternate components also

.E.g.. Roll cage pipes

Initially make a tentative budget by conducting market tests andtry to adhere to the same

Learn and perform manufacturing processes so that you can statethe cost of manufacturing as per unskilled labor

Buy in small bill amounts so that you have to attach minimum billsin the report

Presentation: 50 points

Objective

The objective of the Presentation is for the team toconvince the “executives” of a hypotheticalmanufacturing company to purchase your team’sBAJA vehicle design and put it into production atthe rate of 4000 units per year.

For the purposes of the presentation you mayassume that the judges are a mixed group of corporate executives who may have experience inmarketing, production, and finance as well asengineering.

Recommendations

Effective start that attracts attention

Explain demand of ATV’s in other parts of world

Justify feasibility of manufacturing it in India

Put forward the advantages and your strategies toconsume the product

Conclude by a proposal requesting the hypothetical

company to fix an appointment to have furtherdiscussion

Keep in mind-It is marketing presentation andnot technical Presentation

Added advantage

The team with max points from the first

two days gets the pole position on theay, so scor ng max mum rom

static events gives you an opportunityto capitalize on the Endurance event

which carries heavy 400 points.
