StateBandChampionshipsUpdate:Thestatebandchampionshipswillbeinthestate’ssouth,andwillbeheldinGlenorchy,attheDonBoscoCreativeArtsCentre(GuilfordYoungCollege)overtheweekendofSeptember8/9.WeareplanningtohostthemarchingcomponentoftheeventattheHullStreetsideofGlenorchyPrimarySchool,whichisnotfarawayfromtheon-stagevenue.Thiswillbeconfirmedsoon.Adjudicators,andotherdetails,willbeannouncedsoon.ThankstoDerwentValleyConcertBandforofferingtoassistwiththeorganisingofthisevent.NationalsWrapThe2018NationalBandChampionshipstookplaceovertheEasterlongweekendinKew,Victoria.Despitebeinganinterstatenationals,Tasmaniawaswellrepresentedattheevent–with3openbrassbands,1juniorbrassband,and2openconcertbandparticipatingatthecontest.ThejuniorensemblesparticularlyexcelledinKew,withtheNorthWestcombinedjuniorbrassbandtakingoutthe
juniorCgradebrasstitle.Theirjuniorquartetandquintetalsodidwell,withbothensemblestakingoutfirstplaceintheirsections.RoseBayHighSchoolalsoperformedwelltotake3rdplaceintheOpenDGradeConcertBandsection.Theseniorbandsalsofaredwell,withHobartWindSymphonyachieving2ndplaceintheopenAgradeconcertbandsection,andUlverstoneachievingacommendable4thplaceintheopenCgradebrasssection.Ulverstonealsocame2ndintheirrespectivemarchingchampionship.Glenorchy(OpenAgrade)andHobartBrass(OpenCGrade)alsoputincommendableperformancesontheweekend,butdidnotobtainaplacingTasmanianbandswerealsowellrepresentedinthesoloandensemblechampionships.BenjaminPrice(Hobart)inparticularachievedanequalhighestsoloscoreontheday,with98intheopenaltosaxophonesolo.OtherTasmanianstowintheirsectioninclude:ThomasMcKay(opentenorsax),BecHaight(openbassoon),ThomasGeale(junior
