TEST PROTOCOL No. 1003/U0/304279.001/ТU/114-10 Retractable barrier (RB) B-02 hit by automotive vehicle
1 TEST OBJECTIVE
Stability Evaluation of retractable barrier(RB) following vehicle impact, installed in a test area of the FGUP
NITsIAMT1 according to VARN.304279.001TU (TU5217-001-40070697), international certification standard SD-
STD-02.01 "Test Method for Vehicle Crash Testing of Perimeter Barriers and Gates", "Standard Test Method for
Vehicle Crash Testing of Perimeter Barriers" ASTM F 2656-07 and "Organizational supervision for evaluation of
effectiveness of retractable barrier (RB) usage, full-scale test requirements, choice of barrier characteristics and
their installation" (FGU2 12 TsNII
3, MORF
4, SITO FSO RF
5, NIIST GU NPO “STiS” MVD RF6
, FGUP
TsNIIKhM7, RARAN8).
2 TEST OBJECTS
2.1 Line No.1 – retractable barrier B-02, including retractable bollards BLG-02, manufactured by El-
Go Team, Even Yehuda, P.O.Box 1036, Israel 40500.
2.2 Retractable barriers manufactured byZAO9 "VCT – Spetztechnica", 125130, Moscow,
Kosmodemyanskih Z & A Street, 34.
2.3 Tests requested by ZAO “VCT – Spetztechnica”, 125130, Moscow, Kosmodemyanskih Z & A
Street, 34.
2.4 Construction of lines
Line No.1 consists of two retractable bollards BLG-02 installed at a depth of 1.30 m with concrete casting
and steel reinforcement as shown in figures of Appendix A.
Photos of the general appearance of the object prior to the tests appear in Appendix A.
3 TEST OBJECT REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Retractable Barrier must stop an automotive vehicle (AV) with a mass of 6800 kg when hitting line No. 1 at
a speed of 50 km/hour (not less than 45 km/h), ensure a distance of AV intrusion after the Retractable barrier line
no more than 6.1 m (criterion L2 according to STD 02.01) and maintain normal operating functionality after the
impact, i.e. go up and down in normal operations mode.
3.2 According to GOST Р 52721-2007, a value of summarized inertia overload (I) at a mass center of
retained AV is no more than 1.3.
I = [(Nx/12) 2 + (Ny/9) 2 + (Nz/10) 2] 05 <1.3,
Where Nx, Ny, Nz are average values of inertia overloads (impulses of the highest overloads influencing AV in the
course of collision with a retractable barrier during 50 Msec are evaluated) at the center of AV masses acting along
their principal axes.
4 TESTING TECHNIQUE
4.1 Installation of the RB for stopping an AV was performed in an ITs-NITsIAMT10
test area on
November 08-10, 2010.
4.2 Automotive vehicle
For retractable barrier test, automobile ZIL-5301 was used.
4.2.1 Automobile ZIL-5301
- Gross mass of the vehicle with fixed load, kg 6800
- Front axle load, kg 2700
- Rear axle load, kg 4100
4.3 Constructions and devices for vehicle acceleration and movement to the retractable barrier
A horizontal 6 meter wide road with a hard (cement concrete) surface was used for AV
acceleration. AV Movement at the prescribed direction was ensured by a straight-line monorail.
Acceleration was provided by a tractive vehicle, haulage rope, system of rope sheaves and slide plate moving
along the monorail. Slide plate and the vehicle Separation occurred automatically 6 meters before vehicle and
retractable barrier contact location. Further movement of the vehicle was due to inertia. 4.4 AV impact into retractable barrier Measurement parameters
Vehicle speed at moment of hitting retractable barrier (impact rate) was measured by an electronic
device which measured time taken to cross a 1 meter space at a distance of 5 meters prior to vehicle and
retractable barrier impact.
AV impact angle into the retractable Barrier and displacement angle following the impact were
determined according to video data, received from the video camera located above the impact area.
AV intrusion distance past retractable barrier installation line was determined by direct metal reel (tape-
measure) measurement. Overload values were measured on three main AV axles area of mass using three readers at B-12 (Б-
12).
Readings were registered by magnetometer KhR-50 (ХР-50) through cable connections. Reader signals were
filtered through 180HrZ filters.
5 TEST RESULTS
5.1 Tests took place on December 21, 2010, air temperature -8°C, wind speed 3-5 m/s.
5.2 Actual test environment:
Vehicle Impact rate,
km/hour
Impact energy, kJ Intrusion distance in

Line of 2 RB AV ZIL-5301 48.3 612.2 0.3
AV impact angle – 90°.
AV, term No. 999, hit the retractable barrier at a speed of 48.3 km/h. As a result, the AV suffered damage
of its front axle and steer, and got stuck at the retractable barrier location. The retractable barrier did not suffer
any damages, and retained in full its operational features and appearance.
General view of the RB and automobile following the tests appears in Appendix B.
5.3 At the moment of automobile and retractable barriers Impact, overload readers registered the following
slowdown levels:
Along axis X – 10.85g
Along axis Y – 4.52g
Along axis Z – 7.21g
Test protocol for overload measurement appears in Appendix C.
6 SUMMARY
RB B-02 was able to bring an AV with a mass of 6800 kg moving at a speed of 48.3 km/h to a complete
halt. As a result, the vehicle suffered damage to the following components: truck front axle and steer.
After the retractable barrier was hit by the AV, no body or suspension fragments were revealed.
Maximum overload value in vehicle cab at impact moment with the retractable barrier was 28g, which
complies with European standard E N 1317-1:1998.
After impact, intrusion distance was less than 0.3 m, which meets criteria L3 according to SD STD
02.01.
After the head-on crash, both RBs B-02 retained full operational features and appearance.
RB B-02 complies with the following:
- Specification requirements VARN.304279.001TU, Para 1.1.5, 4.3, 5.10;
- Certification standard SD-STD-02.01 – stability class K4/L3;
- Standardized testing method ASTM F 2656-07 – designation М30; Pi;
- "Organizational supervision for evaluation of effectiveness of retractable barrier (RB) usage,
full-scale test requirements, choice of barrier characteristics and their installation" – the 3rd
(third) level of
safety.
Test protocol may be reproduced only in full and only with ITs-NITsIAMT written permission.
