Vision

While providing a safe and caring environment, Richmond Community Schools will be a high performing, well respected

public school system that will make the community proud.

weRrichmond.com

Annual goals for School Year 2011-2012 were established last summer by the School Board to realize the vision of a community that is proud of its high performing public schools. The goals were admittedly ambitious, designed to “stretch” the capabilities of the system and to acknowl-edge the urgency of student academic growth and achievement.

Annual Goals

On our way to 90% by 2013, student achievement, as measured by ISTEP+ scores at all grades tested, will increase by 10% in language arts and mathematics. On our way to 90% by 2013, student achievement, as measured by IREAD-3 scores at the third grade, will increase by 6%. On our way to 90% by 2013, the graduation rate at Richmond High School will increase by at least 3%. The Richmond Community Schools will demonstrate through an increasing enrollment of 25 students that it is a school of choice for families in Richmond and Wayne County.

These goals have driven our efforts this year, and the result has not only been academic improvement, it has also been organizational restructuring. Positively speaking, the story of School Year 2011-2012 in the Richmond Community Schools is one of student accomplishment, one of system-wide transition, and one of determination. We are anxious to tell our story and to thank you for your interest in the Richmond Community Schools.

Dr. Allen Bourff,

Superintendent of Schools

Curriculum A new approach to the teaching of reading was implemented this year in grades K-6. Aligned to the Indiana Reading Framework, this approach requires a daily 90-minute uninterrupted block of time for instruction. Reading Street by Pearson is the core instructional program used by teachers and students. Implementation of the Pearson Math series enVision began this year. This math series

guarantees alignment with Common Core as Indiana and 47 other states transition to that nationwide academic standard set. This identification of critical standards at the middle school level has resulted in the drafting of common formative assessments. These assessments are designed to assure that students are exposed to and tested on the same content regardless of the school they attend within this district. The expansion of Early College this year into the high school has resulted in further instructional partnership with Ivy Tech Community College.

Finance A balanced budget for 2012 is projected, based on district level reorganization for operational efficiencies.
