State of Iowa Data Planfor Executive Branch Agencies

The purpose of the State Data Plan is to identify actions Executive Branch State Agencies (non-elected) intend to implement during the fiscal year. It provides explanations for actions identified and establishes target dates by when the agency expects to complete the action. Actions can include:
- conducting research relative to a new dataset, - publishing a new dataset on data.iowa.gov, - enhancing a existing dataset by adding columns, - automating updates to existing datasets, and - replacing/deleting existing datasets currently published on data.iowa.gov.
The plan also highlights maintenance required for content previously published on data.iowa.gov.
The Department of Management's transparency program promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what the State of Iowa is doing. Ultimately, it is intended to help citizens answer questions like:
- How much is the State of Iowa spending each year? - Which businesses in my community received permits or licenses last year? - Are we paying more property taxes than neighboring communities? - Have crime rates increased or decreased in my community? - How many crashes occurred on Iowa roads last year? - How does graduation rates in my school district compare to others?
The program is working to make it easier for citizens to find the answers to questions such as these by releasing the data compiled by state agencies.
