AE Faculty: Depth and Breadth

• 40 academic faculty• 47 doctorate-level research faculty• 4 NAE members• AE faculty sit on the editorial boards of virtually every major professional journal,

including AIAA, Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, JANNAF, and more…• 30% of our faculty hold named professorships or chairs

The hiring of Dr. E. Glenn Lightsey

has added depth to our presence in the fields of autonomy

and space flight. We are not the only

ones who’ve noticed. Lightsey

was named an AIAA Fellow earlier this

year.

An Emphasis on Mastery: The AE Curriculum

FIXED WINGA team of 35 undergraduate and graduate GT-AE students dominated rivals from 75 other teams in both the Micro and Advanced Class categories of the 2015 SAE Aero East competition in March (right).

The GT-AE team’s Buzz Killington UAV (left) took home the top prize for documentation and third place overall in the AIAA Design, Build Fly Competition, held in April 2015.

SPACECRAFT

Under the direction of Profs. Dave Spencer and Marcus Holzinger, GT-AE students have been involved in two real-world space missions: the 2015 LightSail-A mission and the 2016 design and deployment of the RECONSO cubesat.

Page 11: State of GT AE School - Georgia Institute of Technology of... · The newly designed GT-AE curriculum anticipates the importance of co -ops, internships, ... Undergraduate education

An Emphasis on Experience: The AE Curriculum

The newly designed GT-AE curriculum anticipates the importance of co-ops, internships, and other forms of outside-the-classroom learning, like studying abroad. Students who take advantage of these benefits do not have to “pay the price” by graduating out of sync.

75 students took advantage of Study Abroad opportunities over the summer and this fall. More than 130 students were involved in co-ops or internships.

AE Research: Making an Impact

Our investment in the new Maker Space will allow current and future GT-AE students to think outside the box – or manufacture a new box–when their research requires them to fabricate new prototypes.
