TOTAL REQUEST (DOLLARS IN THOUSANDS): PHASE(S) TO BE FUNDED: WC PROJ CAT: SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL: Subdivision (a) of Section 28 of Chapter 7, Statutes of 2007, Assembly Bill (AB) 900 as amended appropriated $300,000,000 General Fund for infrastructure, dental, medication distribution improvements and for projects in the Health Care Facility Improvement Program in Section 15819.403(a) of the Government Code to complete design and construction of projects at prisons statewide.

Based on trailer bill language approved in 2014, five new projects for the Health Care Facility Improvement Program were authorized from this funding source. Preliminary plans have been completed for these projects. However, working drawings are currently in progress and anticipated to be completed in mid-2016. Additionally, the Calipatria State Prison-Potable Water Storage Reservoir project funded from this appropriation is currently in the working drawings phase with completion of this phase anticipated in mid-2016. It is not possible to allocate the construction phase funding prior to June 30, 2016 for these six projects.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is requesting a reappropriation of the unexpended funding. This reappropriation is necessary to ensure the balance of this appropriation remains available for completion of health care facility improvement projects necessary to comply with court requirements, as well as critical infrastructure projects necessary to maintain the safe and efficient operation of existing facilities.
