STATE COLLEGE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT VI-BCOMMUNITY EDUCATION 2012-13 PROGRAM REPORT
In 2012-13, Community Education had 3735 program enrollments. An enrollment summary (Summer,
Fall, and Winter/Spring) is attached. Program highlights include: moving to an on-line registration
system (Pro Class) and developing a new after school extended learning program model that is
now being piloted at Radio Park and Park Forest Elementary Schools.
Summer months continue to be the busiest time of year with 2152 program enrollments. Shorts
& Sports, the Summer Champs Camp, the Summer ESL Program, and Art in August comprise
the majority of these enrollments.
PROGRAM UPDATES:
Driver Education – One hundred eighty-seven (187) High School students completed the “in
car” program. This is up from 155 enrollments in FY12.
GED Test Center – Since 2002, Community Education has operated a GED Test Center for the
Centre County. In 2012-13, 49 students were served by the Center (56 students served in FY12).
In 2014, there will be a New GED test that will be administered on-line only. Due to new facility
requirements for GED test centers and the amount of money that will be returned to them, the
district will no longer serve as a test site.
Community Education Extended Learning (CEEL) Program Update: In spring 2013, Community Education staff developed a new extended learning after school
program model (CEEL) that is now being piloted at our two largest schools, Radio Park and Park
Forest. CEEL Program enrollments have been averaging 47 students per day at Radio Park and
41 students per day at Park Forest Elementary.
Meet the CEEL Team! evenings were held at both schools prior to the school year and Fall
Showcases, highlighting the students’ work and other skills learned in Tumbling, Martial Arts,
STEM, Chinese, and Art were held in November at the conclusion of the first 12 week session.
An on-line program evaluation was done mid-way through the Fall Session, with approximately
50% of the CEEL parents responding. The Art Safari and STEM courses received the highest
ratings; the on-line registration system and snacks received the lowest ratings.
CEEL focus groups will be held in mid-January at both program sites to obtain additional parent
feedback. This input will be valuable in planning for the 2014-15 school year.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION FINANCES:
In Fall 2012, Community Education eliminated its Registar position and moved to an on-line
registration system (Pro Class). At present, the district supports salary and benefits for the
Director and Department Secretary positions. In FY13, this amount totaled $184,652.
Community Education’s day to day operational expenses were covered by income generated
through registration fees. In FY13, $312,596 (includes GED Test Center and Driver Education)
was generated in income. Community Education’s cost to the district was $48,144; in FY12, it
was $94,621.
