Towers Foundation: Loving Kindness in Action
The Towers Foundation Receives Grant for Innovative ProgrammingMusic and art have the power to change lives. Through both art and music, people can experience a greater sense of connection and community. The Towers Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received a competitive national grant through the Association of Jewish Aging Services to run two Intergenerational evidence based programs, Opening Minds Through Art and Music & Memory, for three years.
For the 445 organizations across the country that have implemented Memory & Music, the results have been staggering. Participants have reported positive mood change, an increased desire to connect with others, less stress and anxiety, a reduction in physical pain and an increase in pleasure. Memory & Music was featured in the documentary film, Alive Inside: A Story of Music & Memory, which received the Sundance 2014 Audience Award.
Through Opening Minds Through Art, high school and college students are trained to work one on one with seniors on weekly art-making projects. Seniors who have taken part in OMA have reported higher self-esteem and the students who have participated have experienced transformational learning. Studies show that OMA succeeds in improving the quality of lives for seniors, volunteers and staff.
OMA is nationally run, but The Towers will be the first senior community in Connecticut to implement the program. The culmination is an art show for the entire community to enjoy, not only ours here at The Towers, but across Greater New Haven.
We hope you will consider participating in one of these programs. Grant funding for programs like these at The Towers is critical. As they say, the rent only covers the rent. By supporting the Towers Foundation, you support all the programming that is meaningful and beloved to our community.
Dear Friend of The Towers,
This could not be a more exciting time for The Towers. We are making investments today that will provide an even higher quality of life at The Towers than ever before.
Helping seniors and their families live their best lives is what we do. Knowing each person and treating them just like family, are among the guiding principles of The Towers team.
However, as they say, the rent only covers the rent. Through The Towers Foundation, we are able to create programs that are cultural, spiritual, social, full of physical activity and that are mind stimulating. We also provide emergency relief when those among us are in distress.
All of this is made possible by people like you. Making a gift to The Towers Foundation is a wonderful way to ensure that our community is filled with Dor L’Dor (linking generation to generation), Chesed (acts of loving kindness), and Tezdakah (philanthropy and justice). Your gifts make these programs possible:
