“Finding my “Finding my land legs” land legs”

Deb Heynen is one of our wonderful staff members here at STARplex, who is married with two beautiful girls. Deb is the Assistant Manager in the STARplex Swim Centre. Deb’s fi rst encounter with STARplex was when she applied for a casual position as a swimming instructor

11 years ago, due to her passion for swimming. “What I love about my job is having the ability to teach children how to swim, which has so many benefi ts in life”, says Deb. Not only are swimming lessons great fun for children, but it also teaches them a very important skill that can be lifesaving.

Deb’s passion for swimming has continued and Deb’s love for the water is evident as she takes time out of each and every day to jump in the pool for her own benefi t. Every day Deb will swim one kilometre as this is the perfect way for her to keep her fi tness levels up along with having the opportunity to enjoy doing something she loves to do.

Swimming one kilometre every day is already a huge achievement, however, Deb feels like her next goal is to fi nd her ‘land legs’. “I feel really comfortable in the pool, and feel that swimming one kilometre isn’t a huge challenge for me anymore, however, stepping into the gym and jumping on a treadmill is something that is out of my comfort zone and I feel is quite daunting”, Deb says. Even though starting in the gym will be a challenge for Deb, it is one of her goals, as she feels the need for a bit of a push and would like to achieve some more fi tness and wellness goals out of the water.

We can’t wait to see you in the gym fi nding your ‘land legs Deb’!
