Jesus in the Gospel cleansed the temple area of vendors and the money changers who have made his Father’s house a market place. He was very clear about his message that no one can make a mockery out of God and out of God’s house. His anger was not a sheer show of personal power, neither was it meant to intentionally inflict pain on other people, but to bring back order, integrity and wholeness. Jesus reminds us today that our God is God of all, a loving, compassionate God whose house is a house of prayer for all. We are also reminded of the call of Jesus to cleanse our interior temple and not just be contented with “window-dressing our hearts.”
Let us pray in this Holy Eucharist for the
cleansing of our hearts and our nations of pride,
greed and violence.
Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen.

2018 Annual Diocesan Appeal:
Building Our Family of Faith
Welcome to the 2018 Annual Diocesan Appeal ~ Building Our
Family of Faith.
As I begin my ministry as the 13th Bishop of Richmond, I think
about how far this Diocese has come since its inception in 1820.
In recent years, one of the key components of advancing our
Catholic Faith has been the Annual Diocesan Appeal. It has
become a part of the fabric that binds us together as a family of
faith. When our larger ministries and parishes receive funding
through the Appeal, we as a Church are ensuring that they can
thrive today while building for tomorrow.
With a grateful heart, I hope all parishioners of Star of the Sea
will join with us this year to accomplish our most challenging
goal to date of $3,117,096. Please know that whatever level you
contribute; your gift will be most humbly received.
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Rev. Barry C. Knestout

RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults The Elect now enter into the time of the Scrutinies.
“..the scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from
the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation,
and to give them strength in Christ.” At its core, the scrutinies
are not about the sinfulness of the elect but about the
overwhelming grace of God in Christ. The exorcisms are not
fear-laden bouts with Satan but are grace-filled encounters with
the healing power of the Spirit.
Please continue to keep in your prayers our elect and candidates.

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT: “Care for God’s Creation”
Catholic social teaching inspires and guides how we are to live and work in the world. In this principle, “Care for God's Creation”, we remember that God created every plant, every mountaintop, every animal—everything. And God said that these things are good. We find God in these good things, and so we must take care of creation—for ourselves and for our entire human family.
For this week, we pray for Safiata in Burkina Faso, who is a farmer working to provide new opportunities for her children and grandchildren. Because of the dry, dusty climate of Burkina Faso and many rainless months, farming can be difficult and many families face hunger. Thanks to a CRS-sponsored irrigation system, Safiata has access to water year-round. That means her crops will grow, and she’ll be able to sell some at the market. “I pay school fees thanks to selling the vegetables. The vegetables help solve the problems my family faces,” Safiata says.
Read more about Safiata’s story: https://www.crsricebowl.org/stories-of-hope/week-3
