Powers is this week’s Senior Spotlight. Deaths: Ted Forrest Clapper, April 4. FORTY YEARS AGO APRIL 14, 1977 An Easter program at the Tryon Wesleyan Church was enjoyed by those in attendance. Those preforming were Anna Pinkerton, Marvin Gove, Melvin and Audrey Brown, Dale and Dorothy Bersley, the Karl Kemp family, and the Church Choir. The soddy was almost full Sunday when a good- sized crowd gathered for Easter Services and vis- ited with Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Chamberlain of Pe- quot, Minnesota. The Chamberlains were mo- bile ministers throughout all western Nebraska. FIFTY YEARS AGO APRIL 13, 1967 Dervin Barner, 15, old- est son of Mr. and Mrs. Denny Barner of Staple- ton, had the misfortune of breaking his left arm while riding his bicycle Sunday. Funeral services were held April 13 for Mrs. Ger- ald (Connie Rae) Tucker, age 23, who was fatally in- jured in a hay sled acci- dent at her ranch home 30 miles northwest of Tryon. The 1967 Senior class of McPherson County High School presented their class play, “Holiday House,” last Friday and Saturday in the school au- ditorium. Seniors were Dan Nicholson, Vicki Kinsman, Darwin Mun- son, Jackie Trumbull, Wy Bellew, Shara McNutt, Leslie Anway and Rick Black. SEVENTY YEARS AGO APRIL 10, 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Har- vey have moved into Tryon and are living in the Parsonage until they get their house built. Ruby Mann Wayman, the daughter of the late Lewis Mann of Tryon, was united in marriage to Adolph Sanson of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota at an informal wedding cere- mony performed Palm Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Kahoe celebrated their 25th wedding anniver- sary on Easter Sunday. EIGHTY YEARS AGO APRIL 15, 1937 Beulah Dutrow, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Dutrow, and a sophomore in the McPherson County High School, won third place rating in the Extem- poraneous Division at the District Declamatory con- test held at Gibbon last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Moore are the proud par- ents of a baby boy born to them at Tryon about noon Tuesday, April 13. During the storm Sun- day evening lightning struck the windmill tower at the Whittaker farm. The charge fol- lowed a radio aerial into the house and damaged a radio set. Members of the family were frightened but uninjured. NINETY YEARS AGO APRIL 13, 1927 The play to be given by the Ladies’ Aid Saturday night is sure to be a humdinger. Ed James recently rented the Allen house and has moved his family to town. Mr. James in- tended to farm this sea- son but was unable to find a place not already rented. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Yankin are moving to their new home at Lilac. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter are the proud par- ents of a baby boy born April 8. Monday, April 17 - Ham- burger patty with gravy, mashed potatoes and car- rots. Tuesday, April 18 - Sloppy Joe, baked beans and French fries.
