Cindy Johnson was a sec- ond place winner of the Nebraska Cattleman Photo Contest and her photo was featured on the cover of the Nebraska Cat- tleman magazine. Henry Elmore Waits, 90, died Friday morning fol- lowing an illness of six months. Pupils of the grade school “doing it up red” this week by coming down with the measles. Ronnie Daly was the first victim, then Tommy Kemp broke out while in school Tuesday. Five members of the McPherson Co. High School band and Rev. and Mrs. Milton O’Connor traveled to Kearney Mon- day night where they en- joyed a concert given by a local college there. The members are; Peggy Streiff, Shirley Haney, Darlene Cook, Maudene Haskell and Katie O’Con- nor. SEVENTY YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 13, 1947 Mrs. Chas. Seeley of North Platte received 60 cards and handkerchiefs at the shower given on her birthday. Carl Rundback is having a siege with the mumps. Jay Leadabrand is driv- ing a new 1947 Chevrolet and Lewis Moriarty is driving a new 1947 Dodge pickup. EIGHTY YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 18, 1937 William Goss, Uncle Billy, as he was known to many people, passed away in North Platte Mon- day, February 15. A fire which started from the Koehler light plant in the basement of the David Store last Fri- day evening was extin- guished before it had gained sufficient head- way to do any extensive damage. Funeral services were conducted from the Tryon M.E. Church on Friday of last week for Mrs. Margaret Kelley (Waits), 81. NINETY YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 17, 1927 The work on the North Platte-Tryon road will be renewed, the contractor having quit on account of cold weather. The contrac- tors will take over the work of completion and surfacing in a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stack are the parents of a baby boy born Febr. 13. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Huffman are the parents of a baby girl born Febru- ary 14. A public sale will be held February 24th 14 miles northeast of Tryon and 14 miles northwest of Ring- gold on the old Pickett Place by Bob Wade, owner. He has decided to quit farming for a while. Jerrold Heide, Alliance High School Band Director was this year’s Clinician. He was very impressed with the quality and quantity of students who participated in this year’s clinic. Students from eight MNAC schools attended the day long clinic, that culminated in a public performance that evening in the McPherson County High School Auditorium. The mass band per- formed five pieces includ- ing, “Valley of Fire” by Michael Sweeney; “A Country Lullaby” by Je- remy Bell; “King’s Moun- tain Adventure” by Ed Huckeby; “Music from Chicago” arranged by Eric Osterling and including the hits, “And All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango” and “Roxie”. The evening ended with the Military Escort March by H. Ben- The mass MNAC band prior to their public performance in the McPherson County High School Auditorium on Monday, February 6. Eight area schools participated in the day-long activities led by Clinician, Jerrold Heide, Alliance High School. Band directors who took part in the performance prior to the mass band per- formance were: Jerrold Heide, Jolene Rose, Kris Ganoung, Jodi Arnold, Heather Walls, Ross Thoendel, Ann Cramer and Daniel Gibbs. The directors performed, “Bad, Bad LeRoy Brown” and “Happy Days”, for the audience in attendance. nett and arranged by James Swearingen.
