When are Pathway Programs Required to Renew?

Every 5 Years • 16 career fields spread across time.• Schedule based on time to apply, time to approve, renewal

cycle and professional development opportunities.

• Scenario 1: Renewal before courses are required.• Scenario 2: Renewal same year courses are required.• Scenario 3: Renewal year after courses are required.***

Out of School Instruction

Cooperative Education• Co-Op programs are structured by courses.

• Working with EMIS to accommodate multiple students, taking different courses with the same teacher at the same time.

Page 13: Standards, Courses & CTE Testing : OCTA Isaac Kershaw, October, 2014

What to do with students who have already taken the course?

1. Don’t offer the introductory course. Embed content in more advanced courses.

2. Offer students an opportunity to take another entry level course in another pathway with another teacher.

3. Allow students to take another course at the same period of time with the same teacher.

4. Provide credit flex opportunity for students.

5. Enroll in same course but provide opportunities for the student to go beyond what they learned previously.

When are CTE Technical Tests Required?

When Available

• For Example: Engineering Pathway End of Course tests available Fall 2013 (FY14). Required Fall 2013.

• For Example: Arts and Communications Pathway End of Course tests available Fall 2015 (FY16). Required Fall 2015.

Career Technical Education TestingNew Features

• Pretests available for selected courses.• Exploring reader application for students with

special needs.• Monitoring can be done with other teachers in the

pathway.• Each student’s cutoff score is an average of their

EOC tests. Report Not Proficient, Proficient, Advanced.

• Accommodates any student taking any sequence of end-of-course tests.

CTE Tests for OTES

CTE Technical Tests are not required for use in OTES.

However

If a district uses ODE-approved vendor tests in the way the vendor prescribes and receives a student growth report with a teacher effectiveness rating, they are required to use the data for OTES.

Page 18: Standards, Courses & CTE Testing : OCTA Isaac Kershaw, October, 2014

But Wait! I haven’t Moved to Courses Yet!

Assumptions• Standards for which programs are held

responsible generally are similar to older standards.

• A course based program organizes standards in a different manner than a 450-900 hours program block.

• End-of-course tests are based on the aligned standards.

Building a Program with Courses

• Instructor at the encouragement of the school administration, works with available pathway courses to build the program.

• Over the past year and into this year the instructor makes a reasonable attempt to address the curriculum in the six courses.

1. Construction - Core and Sustainable Construction

2. Carpentry and Masonry Technical Skills

3. Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Systems

4. Plan Reading

5. Remodeling and Renovation

6. Facility and Building Maintenance

Page 21: Standards, Courses & CTE Testing : OCTA Isaac Kershaw, October, 2014

End-Of-Course Testing• The instructor determines that the existing program did not

spend sufficient time on Plan Reading and Remodeling to meet what is expected in the courses and tests.

• Therefore the instructor selects four of the six EOC tests to have students participate in the 2014-2015 school year.

• Being introductory courses, juniors would test in courses 1 and 2 where they had received sufficient instruction.

• Since the EOC tests were available and technically required for juniors last year, seniors would  finish testing the last 2 end-of-course tests sometime that year.
