USE IN FOODSTUFFS
1. SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION
This standard is concerned with antioxidants and antioxidant synergists
permitted for use in food products.
2. COMPLEMENTARY REFERENCES
2.1 GSO 9/1994 “Labelling of Prepackaged Foods”.
2.2 GSO 795/1997 “Methods of Test for Antioxidants Permitted for Use in Food
Products”.
3. DEFINITION
3.1 Antioxidant: Substance used for the protection of food products against
deterioration caused by oxidation.
3.2 Synergists: Substances used to act or react with another food ingredient to
produce a total effect different or greater than the sum of the effects produced
by the individual antioxidants.
4. CHARACTERISTICS
4.1 No antioxidants and antioxidant synergists other than those mentioned in the
Table shall be used in food products.
4.2 Limits of antioxidants and synergists permitted for used in food products shall
not exceed the maximum limits given in the provided table No. 1.
4.3 Limits of contaminants which may be present in antioxidants and synergists
permitted for used in food products shall not exceed the maximum limits given
in the provided table No. 1

8. SAMPLING
Sampling shall be taken in accordance with the method prescribed in the
revenant food product standard.
9. METHOD OF TEST
Test shall be carried out according to the Gulf standard mentioned in 2.2
10. PACKING
The product shall be packaged in suitable hygienic containers tightly scaled so
as to prevent contact with out atmosphere or contamination.
11. LABELING
Without prejudice to the requirements of the gulf standard mentioned in 2.1 the
following information shall be declared on the food containers or antioxidant
containers in Arabic:
11.1 Common name, EEC number or INS number.
11.2 The statement ‘Antioxidants or Antioxidants synergists Permitted for used in
Food stuffs” in case of antioxidants or Antioxidants synergists containers.
12. TRANSPRTATION AND STORAGE
12.1 The containers shall be transported in such a way that as to avoid their
breakage or damage.
12.2 The containers shall be stored in dry, cool places far away from sources of
direct light and contamination.
