Switch Monitor On Press Left Button 2. Insert Memo Chip of test you want to do Chol&Glu or Lipid 3. Insert Strip of test you want to do Chol&Glu or Lipid **Lot number on the bottle of strips = code on memo chip** 4. Get ready for use: Cotton wool, Lancet (UNISTIK 3) Pipette (Green or Black) On the Unistik 3, twist the grey piece until it comes off- do not pull it. *Be careful not to push the trigger on the side.* 5. Prep the Finger Clean with dry cotton wool Hold finger firmly 6. Place lancet firmly on finger Lance the tip of the finger on the top side **Wipe away 1 st drop of blood** 7. Place tip of pipette in drop of blood – Making sure there is a continual flow of whole blood. Start with the pipette at a slight upright angle. Change angle of pipette, downwards to collect sample to the thin black line. *never tilt the pipette lower than 180° horizontally. *Do not squeeze the bulb to collect the sample, the pipette has capillary action and will suck up the blood automatically* 8. Hover the pipette over the strip and squeeze the bulb steadily to dispense the sample evenly. *Make sure not to touch or damage the strip with the tip of the pipette* Wait for the result to appear on the screen

Standard Operating Procedure 1.

Switch Monitor On Press Left Button

Get ready for use: Cotton wool,

Always use UNISTIK 3 lancet for any CardioChek test Always wipe away the 1st drop of blood Do not clean finger with an alcohol swab Do not milk the finger – This breaks up the whole blood cells Make sure when collecting the sample in the capillary tube, there are NO air bubbles ONLY COMPARE TO LAB RESULTS- FOLLOW CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR COMPARISONS! **CLEAN THE GLASS OPTIC WITH AN ALCOHOL SWAB AT THE END OF EVERY DAY!** TO SWITCH THE MONITOR OFF HOLD BOTH BUTTONS IN, UNTILL IT DISPLAYS SHUT DOWN, THE MONITOR WILL NOW SWITCH OFF. (THE CARDIOCHEK DOES AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF AFTER 3 MINUTES OF NO ACTIVITY. IT WILL COUNT DOWN 10 SECONDS WHILE BEEPING, AND THEN SWITCH OFF) TO PRINT A REPORT:

1. Open Cardiolink Software on Computer 2. Type in Patient Name and Number on top RIGHT 3. Type in Dr/Pharmacy Name and number on top LEFT (Will remain the same) 4. Go on CardioChek, Go to Memory, Chem, Lipids or Chol or Glu, search for the result you want to

print (most recent will show up first), leave result on screen 5. Click on RECEIVE TEST DATA on bottom right on Cardiolink program on Computer. 6. Press enter (left hand button) on CardioChek Monitor 7. The result will be sent through to computer. 8. Click Print 9. Select PDF/DOCUMENT WRITER under printers 10. Select folder to save PDF report in, save under patient name and date of test 11. Click print 12. Go to folder where saved, open PDF, Print.

CARDIOCHEK MENU When doing a lipid (black strip) straight after a dual (green strip) on the same patient make sure:

1. The tests were done after one another. 2. The patient must be seated the entire time from doing the dual to doing the lipid 3. Make sure to lance another finger for the second test

KEEP IN MIND

STRORAGE: *Keep the monitor in the bubble bag and black pouch at all times *Keep the Chip safe *Do not store the chip inside the bottle of strips *Keep the bottle of strips closed at all times *When taking a strip out of the bottle do not put your finger in the bottle- rather slightly tip the bottle and take a strip out. *Keep monitor and strips in a cool dry place *In winter make sure the room is temperature controlled- the CardioChek can only produce accurate results in an environment between 18’c – 28’c (If it is colder the monitor will not test until the temperature is correct) You can place the monitor onto a heated bean bag – NEVER expose the monitor to direct heat.
