AIM OF THE PROJECT Developing a common platform for the

consolidation and advancement of ethical assessment in research and innovation. Project aims to develop a framework of ethical principles and practical approaches so as to strenghten shared understandings among actors involved in the design and implementation of research ethics.

ETHICS IN R&I• Ethical assesment refers to the identification

and evaluation of ethical issues in R&I• The SATORI project brings together two existing

traditions in ethics: research ethics, which is the ethical reflection on scientific practice, and technology ethics, which is the ethical study of the technology, engineering and innovation

"Right now the situation is that ethical assessment of research and innovation is increasingly important because there are major societal consequences with R&I, whether it's for human rights, whether it's for environment, justice, wellbeing or privacy"

Dr Philip Brey professor at the University of Twente

ETHICAL ASSESSMENT• to identify and evaluate ethical issues and

problems in scientific research and innovation practices

• to make recommendations and policy proposals to make R&I more ethical and responsible

• covers a wide range of ethical issues (scientific integrity, fraud and misconduct, the rights of human subjects in research, use of animals, responsible product design, protection of privacy and civil rights…)

ACTIVITIES• Stakeholder mapping• Surveying of stakeholders’ needs for capacity building and

training• Engaging stakeholders in the design of the SATORI framework• Training sessions to introduce the SATORI framework• Workshop regarding the cost-effectiveness ethical assessment• Stakeholder discussion about the impact of ethical
