The moon rotates around the earth at the same speedall year long. This allows us to see the all eight stagesof the moon. The moon is lit by the sun which also rotates at the same speed around the earth. A blue moon is the second full moon in one month.

TitleUsing Oreo cookies make the stages of the moon by taking off some of the Oreo cream. Also identify where the moon and the sun are in location to the earth to make the moon’s different stages. Next explain why we see different stages of the moon.

1.You will be assigned groups of two or three people.

2.One member from the group will carefully separate the Oreo cookies so that the Oreo cream is all on one side.

3.Students will take turns using a butter knife to scrape the cream off each Oreo so that it resembles the moons stages.

4.Use your notes or the website given to help you .

5.Once your done have the teacher check your work.

Once students have finished this activity they should be able to understand the moons stages better than before. They should also have learned that the moon takes the approximately the same time to revolve around the earth every period. The students should have an all around fuller understanding of the moon and it’s stages.
