THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE INTERVIEW

1.Learn about the company and organization

2.Develop good answers to prove yourself unique

3.Be sure you know the time, date and location of the interview hall

4.Check how will you get to the location, do a dummy run if necessary

5. Decide what you are going to wear in advance- Right from your outfit to your handkerchief

6. Do not go to the interview laden with baggage, both psychologically and physically

DRESS AND ATTIRE FOR INTERVIEW

MEN:TROUSERS: Choose Navy blue, gray or black color fabric for trousers. Use wool blend.SHIRT: should be of white, sky blue or cream color and full sleeves. Avoid stripped shirt, use cotton blendTIE: Avoid multicolor printed shades. A red colored tie is the best fit. Tie should touch your belt not longer or shorter.SHOES: Color of shoes may be black or dark brown, both shoes and socks should match each other.HANDKERCHIEF: Should be matching to the shirt or white.

WOMEN:SARI OR LADY SUIT: Both look either look good for the occasion.COLOR : Plain suit or sari will be better avoid prints and use light colors.HEELS: The heel size should not be more than 2 inches. And heel should not produce unnecessary sound.Makeup: Avoid jewellry to the maximum possible level, Use minimum cosmetics, avoid long polished nails.ACCESSORIES: If you wish to carry a purse it should be small. Jewellry should be of one metal either gold or silver.CERTIFICATES: Make sure your certificates are there in some good quality file, and you carry 2 ball pens and a Spiral copy with you.

STEPS TO ENTER THE ROOM

1.Knock the door.

2.Walk confidently to the seat meant for the interviewee.

3.Wish the interviewer

4.When permitted only then occupy the seat.

5.Do not clear your throat

6.Try not to use ya, cool or any other slangs.

APPROPRIATE BODY LANGUAGEWalking: While walking from door to seat have brisk and erect walk. This is the sign of confidence. Slow and bend even slightly shows lack of confidence.SITTING ON THE CHAIR: Sit straight but not in a very comfortable way, your legs should be apart your hands should rest on the arm rest.

EYE CONTACT: Maintain eye contact but don’t stare.

VOICE: Express yourself in a clear and controlled voice, pause a little while giving answers to the interviewer.

• Do your research about the company properly.• Do have a high energy level.• Do greet the receptionist with courtesy and respect.• Do bring an extra resume to the interview.• Do avoid controversial topics• Do stress your achievements.• Do show the research you have done about the company• Do show what you can do for the company.

• Don’t memorize or over rehearse your answers.• Don’t chew chewing gum during the interview• Don’t be very soft spoken; a forceful voice shows confidence.• Don’t crack jokes during the interview.• Don’t look very desperate for the job even if you are.• Don’t speak anything ill about the former company• Don’t ever lie.• Don’t give very short yes/ No answers.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW IS OVER

THANK-YOU LETTERS: Almost immediately after an interview, you should write a thank-you letter to the interviewer(s).  You can use e-mail to do this, but sending a letter or card is more thoughtful.

FOLLOWING UP: If you do not hear from the interviewer by the time he or she indicated, or within a reasonable amount of time from your interview - two weeks or so, you should call or e-mail the interviewer to inquire about the status of their selection process.

SECOND INTERVIEWS:Many organizations rely on second, or even third interviews, to make hiring decisions.  If you are chosen for a second interview, indicate your pleasure at being selected.
