YEOVAL CENTRAL SCHOOL
Term 3 Week 2
27 July 2020
Together we inspire Together we learn Together we achieve
At Yeoval Central School we inspire all to be responsible, respectful learners. Working together to achieve and grow.
Year 11 and 12 have returned with renewed vigour
for their last terms in their respective year groups.
Some of our students are celebrating excellent
results in recent assessment tasks.
Year 11 Standard English completed their study of
the poetry of Wilfred Owen by composing visual
texts that represent Owen’s thematic concerns and
then providing a justification for their
compositional choices. This process enabled
students to increase their deep understanding of
his key concepts and also make considered choices
in their own textual manipulation.
In Term 2 Year 11 English Studies and English
Standard are delving into digital texts, examining
the impact of the big screen and online texts such
as podcasts on our everyday worlds. Year 11
Advanced are taking on the challenge of a flawed
Shakespearean hero by immersing themselves in
the tale of ‘Othello’.
Our Year 12 cohort is in deep preparation for their
Higher School Certificate trial examinations. Their
preparation will be enhanced by their involvement
in the Western Access Program study week during
Week 2. During this time, all Stage 6 students will
attend workshops at the respective schools and
enjoy face to face time with their peers and
coordinating teachers.
Mrs Helen Tremain
At Yeoval Central School we are respectful, responsible and cooperative.
Our PBL focus areas for Term 1 Weeks 1-5 are:
Follow instructions first time Keep your hands to yourself and think before you act
Stage 6 English
This week our senior students are spending each day at a WAP school working with their course
coordinators and peers. We have hosted all schools at YCS today for Mathematics Standard 1,
Mathematics Standard 2, Numeracy, Biology, English Standard, English Studies and Primary Industries.
These learning opportunities support our high expectations in the senior years.
Your child will receive their Semester 1 report this week. Should you have any questions or would like to
discuss their progress, please call the school to speak with their teacher.
I was very proud to have our school chosen from over 2000 public school in NSW to showcase our Learning
from Home journey during Terms 1 and 2. Check out our Facebook page for the link to the article. Now
that we have been back at school for a few months we will be surveying our community this week about
what worked for you and what adjustments you would like to see if we were ever in this situation again.
This forms part of our continual journey of improvement.
Next week we celebrate Public Education! All students will be involved in activities on Monday with the
launch of our VIVOs reward system for behaviour. There will be other virtual activities throughout the
week that the NSW Department of Education have organised to recognise the great opportunities that we
afford public school children with the ‘Learning together’ theme.

K/1/2 Mathematics
Find us on Facebook We are a member of the Western Access Program
K12 spent some time exploring equivalence. They learnt that the equals sign
means that both parts on either side are equal. It is not just there for us to
write an answer to a problem.
We used the balance scales to balance out some simple problems. e.g.
10=6+? They tried some different problems then came up with their own as
a group.
