A recommended read for anyone; not just arsts, as feeling comfortable with the unknown can be a fearsome kind of courage. It’s not easy confronng one’s fears and insecuries in any stage of life; whether in the presence of a neurodegenerave disease, disability or the realies of aging. Those engaging in art therapy here at the Iona studio have my admiraon and inspiraon as I observe and noce ventures in taking courageous steps forward in their art making process, despite not knowing how the process may turn out or what may become of their process. Choosing to aempt something new; whether materials or subject maer is to be applauded and many of those coming into the studio have dared to explore the unknown and brave methods, approaches, materials, arsc references, and viewpoints or perspecves that may not be as familiar. I also applaud those who are connuing their art making processes by themselves, with family and friends, at home, and in their communies. Each person’s process is fascinang and I enjoy seeing all the pieces unfold over me. It does not cease to amaze me how art can capture a moment and me that is unique and special in its own. I thank each and every single parcipant here at Iona in welcoming me while I provide art therapy services for a temporary me. I hope to meet those whom I may not have had the pleasure to meet in person other days of the week at some point. Please feel free to connect in the studio with other staff members as well. Everyone works hard and consistently pushes the boundaries of what was thought possible of doing or being in art therapy and that deserves recognion. I’m looking forward to spending the remainder of the summer and first signs of fall with everyone and observing what develops in the studio. Keep in mind that art therapy nor the art making process does not judge or limit. All skill levels or lack of skill is welcome in the studio. Placing aside those fears and insecuries of what one thinks is possible is really what keeps one moving forward and taking the plunge into possibilies. I’m here to support those visions and ensure a safe, comfortable space to work out those fears and insecuries. “Vision, uncertainty, and knowledge of materials are inevitabilities that all artists must acknowledge and learn from: vision is always ahead of execution, knowledge of materials is your contact with reality, and uncertainty is a virtue.”

The above quote is from “Art and Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking” by, David

Bayles. A recommended read for anyone; not just artists, as feeling comfortable with the unknown can be a fearsome kind of courage. It’s not easy confronting one’s fears and insecurities in any stage of life; whether in the presence of a neurodegenerative disease, disability or the realities of aging. Those engaging in art therapy here at the Iona studio have my admiration and inspiration as I observe and notice ventures in taking courageous steps forward in their art making process, despite not knowing how the process may turn out or what may become of their process. Choosing to attempt something new; whether materials or subject matter is to be applauded and many of those coming into the studio have dared to explore the unknown and brave methods, approaches, materials, artistic references, and viewpoints or perspectives that may not be as familiar. I also applaud those who are continuing their art making processes by themselves, with family and friends, at home, and in their communities. Each person’s process is fascinating and I enjoy seeing all the pieces unfold over time. It does not cease to amaze me how art can capture a moment and time that is unique and special in its own.

I thank each and every single participant here at Iona in welcoming me while I provide art therapy services for a temporary time. I hope to meet those whom I may

not have had the pleasure to meet in person other days of the week at some point. Please feel free to connect in the studio with other staff members as well. Everyone works hard and consistently pushes the boundaries of what was thought possible of doing or being in art therapy and that deserves recognition.

I’m looking forward to spending the remainder of the summer and first signs of fall with everyone and observing what develops in the studio. Keep in mind that art therapy

nor the art making process does not judge or limit. All skill levels or lack of skill is welcome in the studio. Placing aside those fears and insecurities of what one thinks is possible is really what keeps one moving forward and taking the plunge into possibilities. I’m here to support those visions and ensure a safe, comfortable space to work out those fears and insecurities. Much can be said through line, space, color and shape and all forms of expression are valid.
