S port is good for your health, fitness or for a nice figure. You can pursue your goal to be an Olympic winner. Halle is the city in Germany which offers the best variety of competitive sports.
There are 6 national training centres here which are available for top athletes to take part in high-perfor-mance training.At the 19 state training centres, young top athletes are especially fostered in the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.
The basic sports training received at Halle‘s 38 state training centres prepare children and adolescents to move on to a competitive sports career. Children who show very good performance in sports can start a top career at the elite sports school. Education at the elite sports school is free.Since 1956, 88 people have competed at the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Halle. They won 17 gold me-dals, 15 silver and 18 bronze. Since 2008, 79 people have competed in world cham-pionships for Halle. They won 104 gold medals, 78 silver and 92 bronze. Since 2007, 96 people have competed in European championships for Halle. They won 129 gold medals, 116 silver and 116 bronze.In 2014, people from Halle have won 469 times at state championships and 135 times at German championships.
Halle is strong in team sports. A total of 10 teams com-pete in national leagues for good position ( see page 6 at the bottom).

Sport veNueSo ver 70% of all boys and over 50% of all girls do sports regularly. Of those over 60 years of age, 15% of men and 25% of women are in a sport club. This shows that in Halle, you
can participate in sports right up to old age.
Many clubs provide sport opportunities for disabled people.
So-called recreational sports opportunities serve to prevent and/or recover from illness.Sport clubs are also places where social equality reigns. The wealthy entrepreneur plays together with those looking for work.
Thanks to the 300 sports facilities distributed over the entire city, you can play any sport in Halle.

the sport club, a german phenomenonThere have been sports in Halle for over 100 years. Sports are fostered by clubs, some of which also have a 100-year old tradition.
Clubs are legally independent. Their members decide on the principles of financing. They pay a small fee eit-her monthly, bi-annually or annually (the state pays the fee for children of poor families). The members choose the board and can get involved as helpers, trainers or referees.
In sport clubs, the people themselves decide which sport is played. They arrange other club events them-selves, like parties and training trips. Their work is usually volunteer, working for little or no money. Trainers and managers in large clubs are full-time employees.
There are 197 sports clubs in Halle. They are all mem-bers of SSB (Stadtsportbund Halle e.V.), the local as-sociation. At the state level they are members of the LSB, the state association and at the national level the German Olympic Association (DOSB).

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICSThe goal of artistic gymnastics is to conduct and combine
exercises on an apparatus according to given criteria (tech-
nique and posture).
BAdMINTONBadminton is a ball game which is played with a small birdie
(shuttlecock) and one badminton racket per person.
Badminton is also a competitive sport.
BASEBALLBaseball is a complicated game which entails throwing,
catching and running. It is played with 2 teams of 9 players
each.
BASkETBALLBasketball is a type of ball sport for two teams of 5 players
each and 7 substitutes. The goal is to throw the ball into the
opponent‘s basket.
BEACH vOLLEYBALLBeach volleyball is a type of team sport where two teams of
two players each on a sand playing field and divided by a net
stand facing each other. The goal of the game is to play the
ball over the net onto the floor of the opponent‘s half of the
field.
BILLIARdSBilliards is a type of ball game where two people play
against each other. It is played on a table with special billiard
balls and a cue which used to hit certain balls on the table.
BOCCIAThe goal of boccia is to throw a ball as close as possible to a
smaller target ball and/or to hit the opponent‘s away from
the target ball.
BOwLINGBowling is an American variation of nine-pin.
BOxINGBoxing is a combat sport where two people of the same
weight category fight only with their fists according to esta-
blished rules.
ABC OF BALL SPORTSChildren learn how to play different ball games as an intro-
duction to various ball sports types
ACROBATICSAcrobatics are body movements which require a high
degree of coordination and stamina. This includes hand-
springs, somersaults and complicated jumps or in floor
acrobatics, building static figures like human pyramids.
AEROBICSAerobics is dynamic group fitness training with rhythmic
movements to motivating music. The basic elements are
mainly (aerobic) endurance and coordination. The exercises
are brought together into a choreography and led by an
aerobics trainer.
AIkIdOAikido is a modern Japanese martial art. The goal of Aikido
is to defend against attacks and to use the power of the
attacker so that they are not able to attack again immedia-
tely. As a rule, this is performed with throwing and leverage
techniques.
MARTIAL ARTSMartial arts is a collective term for many different combat
styles. The goal of martial arts is to defeat an opponent
through various standard techniques (self-defence, police
intervention techniques, military hand-to-hand combat...),
but to not permanently injure the opponent.
AMERICAN FOOTBALLAmerican football is a sport where two teams of eleven play-
ers each try to bring a ball over the opposing goal line.
ARCHERYArchery is used for hunting, sports and in armed conflicts.
The archer attempts to use the bow to shoot an arrow at a
target.
ARNIS /ESCRIMA /kALIModern Arnis is a combat sport suitable for daily use, where
single stick and double stick techniques with 60cm sticks
are trained.
Escrima is a martial art which includes combat without
weapons, stick combat and blade combat.
Kali is a martial art related to Escrima and Arnis.

BREAkdANCEIs a type of dancing in which a dancer performs very athletic
movements that involve touching the ground with various
parts of the body (such as the head or back).
CANOEINGCanoe sport is a type of water sports where a canoe is pro-
pelled in the direction of viewing by the use of paddles.
CAPOEIRACapoeira is a Brazilian combat dance which includes self-
defence, dance, music and folklore.
CHESSChess is a strategic board game for two players where chan-
ce does not play a role. Only the ability of the players decide
the outcome of the game.
CLIMBINGIn most cases, this sport‘s goal is to climb a pre-determined
route. The climber is usually secured against falling with a
rope tied to a partner.
CYCLINGCycling sports are all types of sports which are performed
on a bicycle. These include road racing, cycling marathons,
open races, track cycling, mountain biking, cyclocross,
trials, BMX, mountain bike orienteering, artistic cycling,
cycle polo.
dANCINGDance means body movements performed to music. Dan-
cing is a ritual, a custom, an art, an occupation, a type of
sport, a form of therapy or an expression of feeling.
dARTSDarts is a game of skill where small darts are thrown against
a round disc, a dart board.
dEAF SPORTSSports rules for the deaf are not different , but instead of
whistles and hearing starting signals , athletes and referees
communicate using signs , flags and lamps.
dISABLEd SPORTSDisabled sports are those played by those with disabilities.
This also includes the rehabilitation of disabled people.
dIvINGDiving is divided into the following: springboard diving,
high diving and synchronised diving. Artistic dives include
somersaults and twists.
dOG SPORTSDog sports describe sports with household dogs. Dog
sports include companion dog sports, protecting dog
sports, agility, dog dancing, dogging, discdogging, dog
Frisbee, flyball, dog house competition, obedience, dog
tournament sports and mass sport.
dRAGON BOATA dragon boat is a relatively large paddle boat in the form of
a stylised dragon. Up to 20 paddlers, who sit next to each
other in pairs, move the boot forward.
ICE HOCkEYIce hockey is a team sport played on ice with ice skates. In
ice hockey, a puck, a flat disc made out of hard rubber, is
shot into the opposing goal using hockey sticks.
ICE SkATINGIce skating is moving on ice on skates.
EqUESTRIAN SPORTSEquestrian sports describes driving horse-drawn carriages
for sport or as a hobby.
FENCINGFencing is primarily a combat sport where weapons and
movements are refined in contrast to sword and sabre
fighting.
FIGURE SkATINGFigure skating is a form of ice skating which features artistic
performance of jumps, pirouettes and steps.
FIN SwIMMINGFin swimming is the most elegant and fastest way to move
yourself through water using your own power. With move-
ments similar to dolphins and a monofin, top speeds of over
3 m/s are achieved.
FISHINGThe term fishing means fishing with a rod. The simplest
fishing rod is made only out of fishing line, hook and bait.
FISTBALLFistball is a team sport in which two teams each with 5 play-
ers face each other on two half-fields. There are separated
by a rope. Each team tries to hit a ball into the opposing
half-field with an arm or fist

FITNESSIs the process of training to become physically fit by a regi-
men of exercise, diet, and rest; also : the resulting state of
physical fitness.
FLOORBALLFloorball is a team sport. It is similar to floor hockey or ice
hockey.
FOOTBALLFootball is a ball sport where two teams of eleven players
each play against each other. The goal is to bring the ball
into the opposing goal. Football is primarily played with the
feet. The goaltender is the only player which may touch the
ball with the hand within the penalty box.
FRISBEEA Frisbee is usually a disc-shaped sport device which flies
through the air with aerodynamic propulsion and a circular
movement. Numerous individual and team sports are also
played with this device.
FUNCTIONAL GYMNASTICSFunctional gymnastics should above all strengthen the core
muscles and improve the body‘s posture.
GOLFIs a game in which a player using special clubs attempts to
sink a ball with as few strokes as possible into each of the 9
or 18 successive holes on a course
GYMNASTICSGymnastics is the art of physical exercises. Their purpose is
to generally and evenly train the body.
HANdBALLHandball is a team sport where two teams of six players and
a goaltender each try to throw the ball in the opposing goal.
The winner is the team which achieves the most goals after
the end of playing time.
HANdICAPPEd SPORTA race or contest in which contestants are given advantages
or compensations to equalize the chances of winning.
HIkINGHiking is a kind of walking but is performed in nature.
HOCkEYHockey is a goal game which is played with hockey sticks
and can be played in different variations.
IAIdOIaido is the Japanese „art of sword drawing“ and is part of
the large range of Budo disciplines.
JOGGINGJogging is a type of leisure and running sport where endu-
rance is increased by leisurely long-distance runs.
JUdOJudo is a combat sport which serves self-defence and at the
same time teaches the harmony of body and spirit. Tech-
niques primarily include throwing, holding and choking.
JUGGERJugger is a modern sport, combining the characteristics of
team sport with elements of various individual sports such
as fencing or wrestling each other.
JU-JUTSUJu-Jutsu is a self-defence system suitable for daily life.
Every defence technique is usable against many types of
attacks.
kARATEKarate is a martial art whose history goes back to Okinawa,
where local traditions merged with Chinese and Japanese
influences.
kICkBOxINGIs boxing in which boxers are permitted to kick with
bare feet as in karate.
NAUTICAL SPORTSTypes of sports which are included in nautical sports inclu-
de: sailing, rowing, running, swimming, knots, casting line
and rope climbing.
NINE-PINNine-pin is a type of sport where players, usually from one
end of a smooth lane, try to knock over nine pins on the
other end of the lane by rolling a ball made of plastic with a
controlled swing.
kENdOKendo is an adapted type of Japanese sword combat, which
not only include techniques and tactics of sword combat,
but also spiritual development.
kOBUdOKobudo is a martial art using a Sai (a type of trident), Nun-
chaku (a short flail) a Bo (a stick measuring 182 cm), a Kama
(a sickle used on farms) or a Tonfa.

PETANqUEPetanque is a game which can be played by people of all
ages. The goal and the purpose of the game is to place balls
closer to the small target ball than the opponent.
PITCH NINE-PINPitch nine-pin is a special form of nine-pin where the ball is
thrown instead of rolled.
REHABILITATION SPORTSSo-called rehabilitation sports are among the after-care
activities following medical rehabilitation
RIdINGRiding is the steering of a riding animal, usually a horse, by a
person sitting on its back, the rider.
ROLLERBLAdE HOCkEYRollerblade hockey for the most part follows the rules of ice
hockey, but is played on rollerblades.
ROLLERBLAdINGRollerblading is type of sport where forward movement is
accomplished on rollerblades. Rollerblades are roller skates
whose wheels are in line with each other, rather than being
mounted in pairs as in earlier skates.
RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICSRG is performed to music and is characterised by gymnas-
tic and dance elements and requires a high degree of body
control, sense of balance and rhythm.
ROwINGRowing generally describes the movement of a water vehic-
le by human strength using paddles or oars. The rower sits
with his back towards the direction of travel and the paddles
or oars are fixed to the body of the boat.
RUGBYRugby is related to American football.
SAMBOSambo is a combat sport. Sambo has its roots in Judo/
Jiu-Jitsu and in the traditional combat and wrestling arts of
Europe.
SHOOTINGShooting sports means using a firearm or bow weapon
(crossbow, bow) for the purpose of sports. Shooting for
sport means shooting according to certain rules, the wea-
pon is used as sporting equipment.
LACROSSELacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a
hard rubber ball and is therefore a type of ball sport.
LIFEGUARdINGLifeguards save people who are in distress near, on and in
water.
MOdEL CAR RACINGModel car racing describes building and operating a radio-
controlled model car with electric or combustion engine.
MOdERN PENTATHLONModern pentathlon is a multi-faceted type of sport which
combines five different individual disciplines.
MOTORBOAT SPORTSMotorboat sports describes operating a motor boat for the
purposes of sport. Different types include circuit races and
off-shore races.
MOTOR SPORTSMotor sports includes all types of sports whose goal is for a
driver to propel a motor-driven vehicle as quickly or also as
dextrously as possible. This includes automobile sports, go-
cart sports, motorcycle sports, motor boat races, tractor
pulling, truck racing and air racing.
NINJUTSUNinjutsu includes various martial arts. The basis of all tech-
niques is the unarmed Taijutsu, or the art of using the body.
Meditation is also taught in addition to combat techniques.
NORdIC wALkINGWalking is the leisure sport variety of walking as a compe-
titive sport. A modern variation is Nordic Walking, where
poles are used in addition.
ORIENTEERINGOrienteering includes two components: orienting and
running. In orienteering, certain points on the course have
to be run to in the shortest amount of time using a map and
a compass.
PARkOUR, FREE RUNNING, TRICkINGParkour is a type of movement whose goal it is only using
the ability of one‘s own body to go from point A to point B
as efficiently as possible. Obstacles in the way are to be
overcome by combining various movements, moving as
efficiently as possible.

SwIMMINGSwimming is an activity where people move through the
water without touching the ground.
SAILINGSailing means movement by using the wind where one or
several sails are set to drive the vehicle.
SENIORS GYMNASTICSSenior gymnastics is an separate type of this sport which
takes into account changes brought about by aging. Its
exercises primarily train natural movements and contribute
to relaxing, stretching and strengthening the movement
apparatus.
SHORAI dO kEMPOKempo is a mixed form martial art which stems from Karate.
SkIINGEvery ski has a running surface and a tip bent upward, the
so-called blade. The form of the ski differs according to the
type of sport and special area of use.
SqUASHSquash is a racket sport with 2 players played on a playing
field bordered by 4 walls. Special squash balls and squash
rackets are used. The goal of the game is to hit the ball in
such a way that the opponent can no longer reach it.
TAEkwONdOTaekwondo is a combat sport which is designed to be fast
and dynamic. Foot techniques dominate in Taekwondo.
TAI CHITai Chi, or Chinese shadow boxing, is a martial art which
includes aspects of self-defence, health and meditation.
TENNISTennis is a ball game played by 2 or 4 players. The oppo-
nents stand on the same playing field, separated by a net,
and try to hit a tennis ball with a tennis racquet into the
opponent‘s half in such a way that the opponent is not able
to return the ball back in the usual way.
TABLE TENNISThe goal of table tennis is to achieve the greatest amount of
points by hitting the ball back and forth, avoiding mistakes
and trying to cause the opponent to make mistakes by
playing the ball in a clever way. „Mistakes“ also means that
the opponent is no longer able to return the hit ball in the
required way.
THAI-BOxINGA traditional Thai martial art in which the fists, elbows,
knees, and bare feet may all be used to deliver blows.
TRACk ANd FIELdTrack and field is a collective term for various running, jum-
ping and throwing disciplines.
TRAMPOLINETrampolines are a group of sports equipment which support
jumping. They come in four basic forms. They are used for
sports in trampoline gymnastics and in medicine for tram-
poline body coordination tests.
TRIATHLONThe triathlon is an endurance sport which is a combination
of the disciplines swimming, bicycle racing and running,
timed directly one after the other.
vO dAOVO DAO is a martial art from Vietnam. Dao: the path which
the learner takes.
vOLLEYBALLIn volleyball, two teams of six players each face each other
on a playing field divided by a net. The goal of the game is
to hit a ball using a part of the body, causing it to go over
the net to the ground of the opponent‘s half, preventing the
opponent from returning the ball.
wATER POLOWater polo is similar to handball and rugby. The players
of two teams try to throw the ball into the opposing goal
through clever playing and swimming.
wATER GYMNASTICSWater gymnastics is special movement training in water
which gently trains joints, tendons and the back.
wEIGHTLIFTINGThe purpose of the sport of weightlifting is to lift a barbell
over your head.
wHEELCHAIR BASkETBALLThe rules of wheelchair basketball are based on those of
pedestrian basketball and are adjusted in several situations
to the use of wheelchairs.

wHEEL GYMNASTICSA gym wheel is a piece of sports equipment which is compo-
sed of two wheels connected to each other by six rungs. The
gymnast stands on the boards almost completely stretched
and holds on to the handles. Leather straps can be attached
to the boards where the gymnast can bind his feet to the
wheel.
wING TSUNWing Tsun is a Chinese style of martial art (often called
Kung Fu in the West).
wOMEN‘S GYMNASTICSHealth-promoting fitness training for women of all ages.
wRESTLINGWrestling is a combat sport using the full body without any
other aids.
YOGAYoga is an Indian teaching which includes a series of
spiritual and physical exercises.

Wir, die Mitarbeiter der Orthopädie-Technik F. Hellwig GbR, wollen Ihnen helfen sich selbst noch ein wenig besser kennenzulernen. Durch einen Sensomotorik Check incl. Einlagen können wir Ihren diversen Beschwerden endlich aktiv entgegen treten. Dafür bieten wir Ihnen die Möglichkeit in unserem Ganganalyse- und Sensomotorik Zentrum in der Saaleklinik Halle (Saale) eine videogestützte Ganganalyse durchführen zu lassen. Die im Rahmen dieser Analyse gewonnenen Ergebnisse fließen letztlich direkt in unsere Fertigung von individuellen und entspre-chend an die Bedürfnisse der Sportler angepassten senso-motorischen Einlagen ein. Mit Hilfe dieser neuartigen und technologisch fortgeschrittenen Einlagen können Schmerzen und Beschwerden, wie beispielsweise im Fuß, der Achillessehne oder im Knie, behoben und somit das eigene Leistungsniveau deutlich gesteigert werden. Vor allem durch die Stabilisierung des Sprunggelenkes kann
das Verletzungsrisiko beachtlich minimiert werden.
