Congratulations! You’re going to be having a baby! Whether this baby is your first, third or fifth, this is no doubt an exciting time for you and your family.

Newborns are incredible creatures. They teach us so much about human nature, the essence of life,and living in the present. My job in photographing these wonderful little people goes far beyond just snapping a few shots of your new family member. I aim to capture a unique moment in time and the emotions along with it. The photos from your session will become a family treasure to be enjoyedagain and again.again and again.

I believe that each family and newborn are unique and require an individual approach to their session, I have been photographing babies, children and families for 5 years, including attendance at workshops and classes on a regular basis and I am a member of the Professional Photographers ofAmerica. My goal is to work with you and your baby to create timeless original works of art in a heartfelt and professional manner; keeping your newborn’s safety and comfort in the forefront the entire time. It’s a blur of late night feedings, doctor appointments, family visits and sleep deprivation so it’s easy to forget howquickly these new little people change. You can never get those first few weeks backagain which is why I’m so passionate about capturing their “newness” in all of it’sglory! A CHECKLIST FOR PARENTS

I want to get the absolute most out of our time together and do everything I can to helpyou get the best images possible. With that in mind, here are some vital tips for our session.

The Day Before

Try not to schedule baby’s vaccinations the day before the shoot if possible.

The day before the session, do your best to tire baby out with stimulating activities.

Feed baby until he is completely full right before you leave.

Ensure the diaper isn’t too tight and that all clothing is easily removable without havingto go over baby’s head.

You should wear lightweight breathable clothing since it will be very warm where we are shooting.

Your hands may be shown in some photos. Please have nails trimmed and clean.

Have water on hand…newborn sessions make you thirsty!!

Don’t forget to bring extra diapers, formula or milk, wipes, and a pacifier. Even if baby doesn’t take a pacifier I ask that parents still have one on hand. All of the movement thatwe will do with baby will require some swaying, shushing, cuddling and settling of baby.A pacifier can help us use the suck reflex to our advantage to keep baby calm and asleep.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION1. Once you've contacted me about photographing your newborn, we can set up a tentative date based around your due date. Because babies typcially come on their own time however, once you have delivered you can then contact me to set up the actual session. Babies are best photographed within the first 5-10 days of birth as they are still very sleepy, can be easily posed, baby acne hasn't appeared yet and any signs of jaundice have faded as well. So be sure to contact me as soon as possible to book your session. If you have a C-Section, let me know so we can plan on having an extra set of hands to help out with baby's shoot, whether it is Dad or someone else. set of hands to help out with baby's shoot, whether it is Dad or someone else.

2. When we have scheduled your session we can then talk about what you expect out of it. Whether you want just familial shots with the baby, or just posed shots or a combination of both. Let me know before hand if there are certain poses you want me to try with baby or special props that you will be bringing from home. Any props that have meaning to you will make the photos that much more special.

3 Plan on your newborn session being anywhere from two to three hours long. Because of this I typcially schedule newborn sessions in the morning,around nine or ten. Much of this time is spent switching blankets and props, getting baby fed or diaper changed/cleaning up messes and soothing baby into poses. A fussy or wide awake baby who is unwilling to fall into a deep sleep can also effect the length of the shoot.

4. I shoot newborn sessions at my home studio. This way you will have access to my enormous supply of props, hats, wraps, outfits, etc. Also, because we are in a home setting it means that parents and siblingscan have additional space to move around and feel more comfortable.

Even if baby normally doesn’t eat that often you may find that all of the activity will trigger them to feed during our shoot. I highly recommend you prepare for a feed just in case so if you are bottle feeding bring what you need. I’m happy to give you the time to do whatever we need in order to keep baby happy!

6. I photograph babies without any clothes on, sometimes with a diaper, but otherwise completely naked. Clothes take away from showing how tiny and different newborns are within their first few days of life and also makes it more difficult to capture tiny details such as hands and feet and the umbilical of life and also makes it more difficult to capture tiny details such as hands and feet and the umbilical cord stub. For this reason please have your baby wearing clothing that is easily removable and preferably something that doesn not go over the head.

7. If Mom, Dad and any siblings are going to be in any shots I suggest wearing simple, light and comfortable clothing for shots.

DURING YOUR SESSION1. I ask that you please arrive at the time that we have agreed upon to start. I do understand that babies don’t always cooperate so please let me know if you are running late so I can adjust. I reserve the right to cancel or reschedule our session in the case that you are going to be more than 20 minutes past our agreed time and/or have not notified me of a delay. I will also reserve the right to reschedule your session if I or any member of my family is ill that day. Baby’s health andsafety is the primary concern and I would never want to expose your little one to an illness. 2. Newborns love to be warm, and since they will be naked for the majority of their session I really turn up the heate before you arrive . A temperature of 80-85 degrees is perfect for naked babies but please dressaccordingly so that you don’t melt; I usually suggest layers are the way to go.

3. I like to start off the session with posing baby on the beanbag using a variety of backdrops and small props (bows/hats). After that we can move on to family shots and other posed shots.

AFTER YOUR SESSION1. After our session I go through all the photos from the session and pick the best of the best to edit and share. Depending on how the session went the number of images can vary from 25 to 35.

2. After editing a few images I will post a sneak peek on my Facebook page, usually 2-3 images.

3. All of your edited images will be presented to you in a personal viewing session. I will come to your home or a location of your choice to show you all of your final images. At that session, you will make your selection of images and products.

That gallery will remain up for 2 weeks for any additiional purchases that are made. After 2 weeks there will be a $25 fee to reinstate the gallery for each additional week.

5. Digital products will be available for download immediately. Printed products normally take between 2-8 weeks with albums requiring the most time.
