Community Relationship

CENIBRA carries out its operationsin 54 municipalities in the state ofMinas Gerais and is aware of theinfluence of its activities on localcommunities. The Companypresence gives rise to numerousopportunities for local social andeconomic development, job andincome generation, professionalqualification, and support to anumber of programs in the areasof education, culture, sports, andothers.

CENIBRA Institute

CENIBRA relies on CENIBRAInstitute to support its socialinitiatives, particularly themanagement, impact evaluation,and implementation of projects.For the past 18 years, the Institutehas been responsible for theCompany’s social orientation andqualification of its socialinvestments.

Mission

Support actions intendedto promote citizenship,collective well-being, socialdevelopment, economicgrowth and improvementof people’s quality of lifewithin the Company’s areasof influence.

Educational and Local Development Projects

In 2019, social actions were oriented towards investments in educational andlocal development projects. In this sense, CENIBRA Institute sought toconcentrate its efforts on initiatives to foster community growth throughsocial projects for educational improvement, professional training, andcooperativism. Thus, cultural and sports projects were based on apedagogical approach. In addition, job and income generation initiativeswere carried out.

funds 62 sponsorship applications with varied interests and objectives were

approved.

Examples of Projects

Partnerships with Beekeepers

CENIBRA Institute has entered into partnershipagreements with beekeepers associations according towhich beekeepers are granted access and allowed touse Permanent Preservation Areas and areas close toeucalyptus plantations to install beehives. This Projecthas great social, economic, and environmental impact,as it creates new jobs and income for beekeepers andtheir families, while preserving the environment.CENIBRA’s share of the output is distributed amongemployees, visitors, and customers. This program relieson support from local administrations, SENAR (NationalRural Education Service), and EMATER (RuralTechnology Support Company of Minas Gerais State).

Target Audience: Beekeepers from 13 associationslocated in areas in which the company operates

Farming Partnerships

This partnership among CENIBRA Institute,municipal administrations, and rural unionsaims at generating income and jobopportunities for family farmers andimprove their living conditions by grantingland areas for crops. EMATER (RuralTechnology Support Company of MinasGerais State) provides the necessarytechnical support, while localadministrations supply agriculture inputsand implements.

Target Audience: Family farmers fromthe municipalities of Belo Oriente,Caratinga, Coluna, Ipaba and Virginópolis

School of Life

The School of Life Project for environmentaleducation aims at raising environmentalawareness and showing how to cherishnature. Implemented in 1996, the Projectprovides capacity-building activities toteachers from the 1st to 5th grades of publicelementary schools. As a result of the Project,both teachers and students engagethemselves in environmental education,urban garbage control, selective wastecollection, and ecologic campaigns.

Target Audience: Public school teachers inthe municipalities of Alvinópolis and CatasAltas

Company-Community Integration Units (Unieco)

The concept of Company-Community Integration Units(UNIECO) is founded on environmental education andexperience centers. The goal is to enhance thecommunity’s awareness of the importance of cultural,social, and educational issues through access to readingmaterial and digital rooms and reflection onmultidisciplinary subjects such as citizenship, environment,ethics, education, and health, in line with the community’sinterests. The expected outcome is an improvement in thequality of life of people attending the Project. CENIBRA hastwo structured units, namely: Private Natural HeritageReserve (PNHR) Macedonia Farm in Ipaba and PeçanhaUNIECO.

Target Audience: Teachers, students, and community inthe municipality of Peçanha, totaling 9,497 people.

Community Action

A partnership between CENIBRA Institute,Unileste (University Center of Eastern MinasGerais), and the Women’s Association ofPeriquito’s São Sebastião do Baixio Districtprovides consulting services to develop andformalize group interaction and learning, andsupport the organization of entities involved injob and income generation for families in thiscommunity and its surroundings.

Target Audience: Women from the districtof São Sebastião do Baixio, municipality ofPeriquito

Cottas Bakery

CENIBRA Institute entered into a partnershipwith Cottas Community Association, Peçanha, todevelop a social project whose purpose is toprovide training and capacity building tocommunity members. It also contributes to thepurchase of equipment and construction offacilities in accordance with public healthregulations applicable to bakery production andsales. Baked goods are produced by womenfrom the community and sold in the region ofPeçanha.

Target Audience: Women from theMunicipality of Peçanha

Handicraft Group of Cachoeira Escura - Grace

The GRACE handicrafts project is the result of apartnership involving CENIBRA Institute, SEBRAE,Ágape Welfare Association, and craftswomen fromCachoeira Escura. Its purpose is to foster the use ofprimary treatment pulp fiber as a raw material forhandcrafts with a focus on culture as atransformation factor. In addition, the project hasbecome an environmental benchmark in the use ofan industrial by-product to produce sustainablegoods. GRACE craftspeople have participated inseveral fairs and events to sell their products anddevelop new partnerships.

Target Audience: Men and women from themunicipality of Belo Oriente

Solidarity Taste

The Solidarity Taste Project contributes tolocal, integrated, and sustainabledevelopment by strengthening the SolidarityEconomy Group of Açucena. Capacity-buildingcourses are given in partnership with CENIBRAInstitute and the municipal administration ofAçucena to improve the product and thebusiness management.

Target Audience: Women from themunicipality of Açucena

Weavers of Brumal

This project is an initiative of the localadministration and the Residents’ Associationof Brumal, along with CENIBRA Institute, todevelop and value the local culture throughwoven handicraft items. With an aim to fosterjob and income generation, several items areproduced, including rugs, cushions, purses,table cloths, and door stops.

Target Audience: Women from themunicipality of Santa Bárbara (Brumal).

Environment and Arts

The purpose of the Environment and Arts Projectis to encourage new reflexive human,educational, cultural, and environmentalrelations for the construction of a criticalconsciousness through theater plays and lectureson forest fires and myths and truths abouteucalyptus forests.

Target Audience: 6,342 people from thecommunities of Antônio Dias, Cantagalo,Catas Altas, Ferros, Guanhães, Iapu,Mesquita, Naque and Peçanha

CENIBRA Mobile

Besides disseminating information aboutproducts manufactured from eucalyptus andthe socio-environmental projects in whichCENIBRA is engaged, the CENIBRA MobileProject promotes environmental education incommunities and at the Company. It helpscreate citizens that are aware of theimportance of environmental preservationand provides information on social, economic,and environmental actions of a forest-basedenterprise. CENIBRA’s Mobile CommunityIntegration Unit is a vehicle equipped with thenecessary infrastructure for the presentationof theater plays, shows, videos, and lectures.

Target Audience: 6,693 people fromTimóteo and Belo Horizonte

Open Doors

Visits to the Private Natural Heritage Reserve(PNHR) Macedonia Farm, where visitors aregiven information about socio-environmental education (Mutum Project)and walk along an ecological trail. Moreover,the industrial plant, seedlings nursery, andoperational units are open to scheduledvisits, giving the company an opportunity tohighlight the environmental, economic, andsocial importance of a forest-based industry.

Target Audience: 932 people fromvarious communities

Action and Citizenship

Partnership with local administrations andDepartments of Education, this Project is asocial promotion initiative comprisingeducational, leisure, and health-relatedactivities with an aim to further enhance theCompany-community relationship.

Target Audience: Students andcommunities from nine municipalities in theNova Era, Guanhães and Rio Doce RegionalUnits

Cultural Projects

Sponsorship of cultural projects withan aim to upgrade education andenhance access to culture in thetowns where the company operates,under the Cultural Incentive Act(Rouanet Act).

Target Audience: 23 communitiesand municipalities withinCENIBRA’s area of operation

Effective Council - Childhood and Adolescence

CENIBRA allocates part of its income tax to theChildhood and Adolescence Fund and encourages itsemployees to allocate the legal 6% deduction fromtheir income tax to the Fund. The proceeds helpmaintain the Effective Council, which provides trainingto the Municipal Councils for the Rights of the Childrenand Adolescents and strengthens the role of suchcouncils in the management of funds, control of publicpolicies, and monitoring of and influence on the publicbudget.

Target Audience: Municipal Children andAdolescents Rights Councils, Guardianship Advisers,and Social Operators in the System for theAssurance of the Children and Adolescents Rights in56 municipalities within CENIBRA’s areas ofoperation and influence

Sports

Encouraging sports practice, socialintegration, and recreation through theSports Incentive Act and company funds.The project provides children and teenswith classes in judo, volleyball, soccer,indoor soccer, and jiu-jitsu. In addition, theproject provides all resources required,such as uniforms, balls, mats, andinstructors.

Target Audience: Children and teensfrom eight municipalities in whichCENIBRA operates

Jorges

CENIBRA Institute entered into a partnership withthe Jorges Community Association, Peçanha, toconduct actions aiming at job and incomegeneration by giving training to communitymembers. It has also helped to implement acommunity vegetable garden and build a shed forthe production of seasonal and produce items to bemarketed in the region of Peçanha.

Target Audience: Men and women from themunicipality of Peçanha

Indaiá

Founded on the cultural and economicspecificities of the region of Antônio Dias,CENIBRA Institute entered into apartnership agreement with the localHandcrafters’ Association and Unileste(University Center of Eastern Minas Gerais)to organize and promote job and incomegenerating activities, in addition tostructuring a sustainable Indaiá strawstewardship plan.

Target Audience: Craftswomen fromthe municipality of Antônio Dias

Professional Education

A partnership among CENIBRA, CENIBRAInstitute, SENAR, SEBRAE, associations,and suppliers from the municipalities ofBelo Oriente, Joanésia, Mesquita, andPeriquito provides guidance, training, andmonitoring to improve and grow localbusinesses. The work plan includes salestechniques, financial management, andbusiness prospecting.

Target Audience: Associations andsmall businessmen from themunicipalities of Belo Oriente and Ipaba

Multifunction Park

The Multifunction Park comprises aplayground, a space for the elderly, joggingtrack, football fields, restrooms, and waterfountains, in addition to extensive greenareas. A library and a theater are beingbuilt. The Park is used mainly by thecommunity of Cachoeira Escura andcommunities around CENIBRA’s plant.

Target Audience: Communities fromthe municipality of Belo Oriente andother municipalities around theindustrial plant

Effective Council - The Elderly

CENIBRA assigns up to 1% of its Income Taxto the Elderly Fund. The funds are used toimplement the Excellence Council Project,a partnership with the Ágape WelfareAssociation. The Project provides trainingto the Municipal Councils for the Rights ofthe Elderly and strengthens the role ofsuch councils in the management of funds,control of public policies, and monitoringof and influence on the public budget.

Target Audience: Members ofmunicipal councils for the Rights of theElderly, elderly and administrators from10 municipalities

Sewing Factory - Neighborhood Association of Aviação (AMA)

CENIBRA Institute entered into apartnership with AMA toencourage job and incomegeneration in the community ofAviação, municipality of BeloOriente, including training anddonation of machinery for asewing factory.

Target Audience: Men andwomen from the municipalityof Belo Oriente

Uruçu

Partnership with the Family FarmersAssociation to provide support forthe construction of a space forgatherings and storage and sale oftheir produce.

Target Audience: Men andwomen from the municipality ofSardoá

Flour of Indaiá

Contribution to the local development andsocial promotion of the TraditionalQuilombolas Communities of Barro Preto andIndaiá in the municipalities of Santa Maria deItabira and Antônio Dias, respectively. In thisregard, a partnership was entered into withthe United Quilombos Association of BarroPreto and Indaiá to provide financial supportto build a manioc processing facility at theQuilombo of Indaiá.

Family Farming - Cocais dos Arrudas

CENIBRA Institute entered into a partnershipwith the Residents’ Association of SantaVitória de Cocais dos Arrudas, EMATER- MG,and the municipal administration of CoronelFabriciano to provide technical support tosmall farmers and purchase soil correctionagents.

Bom Jardim de Tronqueiras

CENIBRA Institute entered into apartnership with the CommunityAssociation of Bom Jardim, Peçanha,to carry out actions intended topromote job and income generationand enhance collective well-being.

Fruit Pulp from Pedra Redonda

CENIBRA Institute entered into apartnership with the MunicipalAdministration of Coroaci and the FamilyFarmers Association of Pedra Redonda toset up a fruit pulp factory with an aim todiversify income and generate jobs forfarmers from the Pedra Redondacommunity.

Living Market

Partnership between CENIBRA Institute, theMunicipal Administration of Sabinópolis andthe Handcrafters and Marketers Associationof Sabinópolis to implement the LivingMarket project with an aim to work with theentire production chain, from planting tosales of products to final consumers, resultingin additional income to participants.

Arts and Fair in the Square - Feirarte

In 2018, CENIBRA Institute entered into apartnership with the MunicipalAdministration of Mesquita and the RuralWorkers Union of Mesquita to upgrade theArts and Fair in the Square project(FEIRARTE) through the purchase of stallsfor exhibition and sales of local handicraftand produce.

Target Audience: Marketers of Mesquita

Social Fish Farms

Partnership between CENIBRA Institute,the Municipal Administration of Periquitoand the Fishers and Friends of Doce RiverAssociation (APARD) to improve theworking conditions of fishers from thePedra Corrida community and provideequipment to increase the income ofparticipant families.

Target Audience: Fishermen from themunicipality of Periquito

The Art of Hands

Partnership between CENIBRA Instituteand the Municipal Administration ofNaque for a handicraft capacity-buildingproject. Ninety women will have new joband income generation opportunities.Participation in regional and local fairs forhandicraft exhibition and sales.

Association of Recyclable Material Collectors of Belo Oriente (Ascabeo)

Partnership between CENIBRA Institute,the Municipal Administration of BeloOriente and the Association of RecyclableMaterial Collectors of Belo Oriente(ASCABEO) to build a containment wall atthe recyclable material screening shed.Recyclable paper was donated toincrease collectors’ income.

Association of Recyclable Material Collectors of Açucena (Acmara)

Partnership between CENIBRA Institute,the Municipal Administration ofAçucena and the Association ofRecyclable Material Collectors ofAçucena (ACMARA) to support theAssociation’s requirements.

Young Entrepreneurship Center (NEJ)

Partnership between CENIBRA Institute,the Municipal Administration of BeloOriente and SEBRAE (Brazilian Micro andSmall Business Support Service) for theimplementation of a technicaladministration and management courseusing SEBRAE’s proprietary method ofyoung entrepreneurship and promotion ofsocio-economic development in themunicipality of Belo Oriente.

Target Audience: Youths from themunicipality of Belo Oriente.
