Call toset grogpriceA FLOOR price on al-cohol would help sup-port the NT Govern-ment’s ‘‘Enough isEnough’’ alcohol re-forms, according tothe People’s AlcoholA c t i o n C o a l i t i o n(PAAC).
Spokesman JohnBoffa said the alcoholreforms would assist alimited number ofpeople to cut downtheir drinking, butmore needed to bedone.
He said: ‘‘If we areserious about trying toreduce alcohol con-sumption to some-thing approaching thenational average, thenimplementing a floorprice is the single mostsignificant action theNT can take.
‘‘A floor price wouldreduce the amount ofharm that occurs inthe first place. It wouldalso enable the re-moval of some irrat-ional aspects of cur-rent restrictions.’’
Dr Boffa said thefloor price would makemeasures such as Al-cohol Banning No-tices, the Alcohol andOther Drugs Tri-b u n a l , a n d t h eSMART Court, farmore effective.
