ST WILLEBRORD PARISH | PAGE 2

From the Pastor: Many times I have written and talked about the importance of “belonging” to a parish community. To belong to St. Willebrord Parish, for example, means that this is HOME. This community is where, and among whom, you and your family invest your lives. As members we are invited to contribute in every way in order to build up the family of faith. This is the parish where you “owe” your parish contributions. This means that members of a particular parish are members regardless of where you go to Mass on Sunday. If you want to be a member of St. Willebrord, this is where the majority of your

contribution of time, talent, and treasure belong. When you assist at Mass at another parish you still have obligations to support your “home.” You are not “paying for the Mass” when the collection basket is passed to you. Normally, this is the moment that you make your “planned contribution.” If you belong to St. Willebrord Parish you are to think of her as the community where you have a plan – you plan to receive the Sacraments; you plan to raise your children; you plan to participate and volunteer; you plan to receive pastoral care when you are sick or hospitalized; and you plan to have your funeral. All of these activities need your planned support. You OWN this parish, but in a way, you are still paying the mortgage by your donations, by your volunteer efforts, and by your presence. As a family, we are all in this parish together. Let us think about and make a plan to participate and to support our parish as fully as we can. Peace, Fr. Andy

FEAST OF ST. BLASÉ

Next week, Wednesday, February 3 is the feast of St. Blasé. St. Blasé was a Bishop in Armenia. According to various stories wri en about him, due to persecu on of Chris anity in Armenia, Bishop Blasé was forced to flee to the back country, and lived as a hermit in solitude in prayer. Hunters found him and forced him to come with them to be imprisoned. As he was being brought into prison, a woman came with her young son who had a fish bone lodged in this throat. At Blasé’s command, the child was able to cough up the bone. Bishop Blasé was tortured, and beheaded in 316.

Tradi onally, on this feast day we come forward to have our throats blessed. So next weekend, we will be blessing throats at the end of all the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses.

Decorate for Lent Tuesday, February 9, a er the noon mass.

NUESTRO BOLETÍN SE REALIZA GRACIAS AL APOYO DE NUESTROS PATROCINADORES. POR FAVOR APÓYENLOS SIEMPRE QUE LES SEA POSIBLE. GRACIAS.

Gracias!
