Who is My Neighbor?

Please join us on Sunday, October 1st at 2:00 PM in the St. Thomas Becket hall to hear Nick Haskell speak on Catholic Social Teaching and Immigration. Nic is the Poverty and Justice Edu-cation Coordinator for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Charlotte

and has many years of experience in Catholic social justice (in addition to being the brother of Margaret Mullenix,

a long time STB parishioner.) He will answer questions such as why people migrate to the US and what the conditions are in their homes that make migration necessary, as well as

explaining the church’s teaching on immigration. He will also touch on how the Catholic Church is working to stabilize migration in other countries and answer any questions you may have. This is a timely topic that

deserves our attention and education so we may make the right choices. Light refreshments will be served. Please put the date on your calendar and invite friends and neighbors.

RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY

The American Catholic bishops initiated Respect Life Sunday in 1972, the year before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in the United States. Since that time, Catholics across the country observe the month of October with devotions and pro-life activities in order to promote the culture of life.

Laws that protect abortion create the worst kind of injustice. They falsely claim that there is no certainty regarding when life begins, that there is no certainty about when a fetus becomes a person, and that some human beings may be killed to advance the interests or convenience of others. The life of a human being begins at conception and ends at natural death. The Church has long taught this simple truth. All other claims have the same result: the weakest and most vulnerable are denied, because of their age, the most basic protection that we demand for ourselves.

“Thou shalt not kill!” God wrote this commandment in the conscience of man long before there was any court to investigate and punish for murder. Cain, who killed his brother Abel, was a murderer long before there were any courts or law. He confessed his deed, moved by his accusing conscience: “My punishment is greater than I can bear. . . and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me the murderer shall slay me” (Genesis 4:13-14)

October is also traditionally the month of the Rosary. Let us pray the Rosary for the strength and endurance to uphold the truths of our faith. Let us ask Mary to bless the weakest among us. May Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Lord of Life, pray for us.

On Tuesday, October 3rd Congress will vote on the PAIN CAPABLE UNBORN CHILD PROTECTION ACT. This bill would protect from abortion babies in the womb who are capable of feeling pain. Please conctact your Representative in Congress and ask them to vote in favor of this legislation (H.R. 36). More information at: StopAbortionNow.org

Dzisiaj obchodzimy NIEDZIELĘ OCHRONY ŻYCIA. Została ona ustanowiona przez katolickich biskupów w USA w 1972, rok później główny sąd zalegalizował aborcje w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Każdego października Katolicy, w specjalny sposób, modlą się i działają w kierunku promowania kultury życia.

Prawa, które popierają aborcję, stwarzają najgorszy rodzaj niesprawiedliwości. Fałszywie twierdzą, że nie ma pewności kiedy zaczyna się życie, że nie ma pewności kiedy płód staje się osobą, i że niektóre osoby mogą zostać zabite dla wygody innych. Życie człowieka zaczyna się od poczęcia i kończy się naturalną śmiercią. Kościół od dawna uczy tej prostej prawdy. Wszystkie inne roszczenia mają taki sam skutek: najsłabsze i najbardziej bezbronne osoby są pozbawione, ze względu na wiek, najbardziej pod-stawowej ochrony prawnej , której my sami domagamy się dla siebie.

"Nie zabijaj!" Bóg wypisał to przykazanie w sumieniu każddego człowieka na długo przed sądami i karą za zabójstwo. Kain zabił swojego brata Abla, był mordercą dużo wcześniej zanim był sąd i prokurator. Wyznał jednak Kain swój czyn, poruszony obwinionym sumieniem: "Zbyt wielka jest kara moja, abym mógł ją znieść... każdy, kto mnie spotka, będzie mógł mnie zabić!” (Księga Rodzaju 4: 13-14)

Październik jest również miesiącem Różańca Św. Módlmy się na różańcu o siłę i wyrozumiałość, abyśmy mogli podtrzymywać prawdy naszej wiary. Prośmy Maryję aby opiekowała się tymi najsłabszymi wśród nas. Niech

“13th Day” - a movie about Fatima This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the apparitions in Fatima. On Friday, October 13th will be exactly 100 years since the famous occurance of Miracle of the Sun,

which is sometimes called “the biggest miracle of twentieth century”. If you are interested in learning more about the apparitions in Fatima and the true story of the three shepherds visited by Our Lady, please come and see the ”13th Day” movie. Movie will be shown in the

parish hall on Friday, October 13th at 7:30 pm (or right after Polish Mass). Movie is in English and it is 85 minutes long. Popcorn and soda will be served. All are invited.

"13 Dzień" - film o Fatimie

W tym roku obchodzimy setną rocznicę objawień w Fatimie. W piątek 13-go października będzie 100 lat od słynnego Cudu Słońca, który czasem jest nazywany "największym cudem XX wieku". Who and what: A 10-part video series on the Divine Mercy by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, facilitated with discussion by seminarian Elliot Zak.

When: The first 5 sessions will begin at 6:30pm in the hall on the

following nights: October 10, 17 and November 7, 14, and 28.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS Hello! My name is Allan Kulikowski and I was given the task of scheduling Eu-charistic Ministers for the English Masses: 4:30pm - Saturday and the 9:00am and 12:30pm on Sunday. I’m very thankful to the present parishioners who have volun-teered to help out to serve the Body and Blood of Christ to all of you. Now I have been doing this job/task for the past five years and things were going good until several Eucharistic Ministers in the past years have decided that they can no longer do it. SOOOO!

Now it is up to some new people to step forward and to serve our brothers and sisters. I have heard the main excuse of not “feeling comfortable”; “I might drop the Host or spill the Blood” or “I don’t have time”???? You are already here and it only takes a little while to get adjusted to doing it and of course training is provided. Then you might have to stay “maybe a whole ten minutes extra” to help clean the chalice and ciborium. By that time, the parking lot has cleared. Can you spare those extra 5 -10 minutes to be in church and help?

You let me know what Mass is your preference and we currently are on and off every two weeks. The schedule comes out every two months and you can request your times to be of service. Some of our ministers are presently doing double duty by being a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. We do not want to cut down the ministers from 5 to 3, this would take longer to serve everyone. The point is: you are here to celebrate Mass, why not help and serve the Body and Blood of Christ to your fellow parishioners as well. Just come to church, check in, wait for the time to step up to the altar and give the Eucharistic. Who knows? You might enjoy it and welcome the good feeling that comes from it.

St. Thomas Becket once again cordially invites all parishioners and guests to “ANDRZEJKI” - a parish dance in honor of St. Andrew. St. Andrew was a disciple whose feast day is on November 30th. His feast is widely celebrated in Europe as the last “hurrah”, the last day to dance and have fun before Advent. Advent then is the time to wait, in quietness and prayer, in preparation for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

So please save this date – NOVEMBER 25, 2017 from 7pm to 12am and join us. Live music will be provided by the RANGERS BAND—come and hear some great music and make sure to have your dancing shoes on! Kitchen will have a supply of great food, cash bar and some surprises too. This a parish fundraiser and it is for adults 21+ only. Tickets will also be sold after all Masses on the weekends of November 5, 12 & 19 as well as in the parish office at any time. Six Weeks With the Word of God is a program provided by the Department of Parish Vitality and Mission for young adults, ages 18 to 30+, that has elements of study, support, and fun, helping participants reflect and find God in their lives. With a comfortable community experience, personal encounters with the Word of God in Scripture, and open reflection on Scripture in the context of their own lives, attendees will meaningfully grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith and as disciples of Jesus Christ. Question:

My coworkers and I have been debating the death penalty and whether or not it should be part of our justice system. Why are so

many people who claim to be pro-life believers in favor of it?

Answer: The issues of crime and punishment

are never easy because so many factors influence people and how they view problems and solutions.

Increased violence, loss of life, cost to taxpayers and the community at large, and the maneuverings of

lawyers and courts only add fuel to the fire. When bad things happen in your neighborhood or to your home

or to you, you want relief. Any normal person would feel that way.

A pro-life view does not insulate anyone from the bad effects of

criminal behavior. Innocent people are hurt every day and it may seem as though those who cause the pain

get away with it, or get off easy.

The death penalty is not excluded by Church teaching. The state has the right to impose penalties that are

commensurate with the crime as well as to defend itself from further harm

(Catechism of the Catholic Church, §2266). When possible, punishment

should help correct the offender, offering a chance of redemption,

which is why the pope and bishops have called for an end to the death penalty. For more information, visit the Human Life and Dignity section

On Sunday, November 5, 2017 the Alvernia Alumnae Association will hold its Annual Fall Gathering at Our Lady, Mother of the Church, 8701 West Lawrence Ave, Chicago, IL 60656. PRZEPISY ARCHIDIECEZJI DOTYCZĄCE POSIADANIA BRONI

Archidiecezja Chicago jest zobowiązana do tworzenia bezpiecznego środowiska społecznego. W obliczu rozprzestrzeniającej się wokół przemocy Kościół stanowczo wzywa nas do tworzenia pokoju. Archidiecezja od dawna stosuje najbardziej znane przepisy zakazujące posiadania broni na terenie naszych budynków. W większości lokali należących do archidiecezji stosowane jest oznakowanie zgodne z prawem stanu Illinois, wskazujące na to, że zakazane jest wnoszenie broni na teren naszych posesji. Kardynał Cupich wydał niedawno zarządzenie mające na celu aktualizację i wyjaśnienie stanowiska Archidiecezji dotyczącego zakazu wnoszenia broni do wszystkich posesji należących do Archidiecezji lub przez nią kontrolowanych. Archidiecezja szanuje drugą poprawkę do Konstytucji Stanów Zjednoczonych i uznaje prawo legalnego posiadania broni dla własnego bezpieczeństwa, do polowania i w celu uprawiania innych dyscyplin sportowych. Archidiecezja stara się wprowadzać równowagę pomiędzy prawami wszystkich osób od-wiedzających nasze posesje, a potrzebą ochrony dzieci, ludzi starszych i innych osób należących do najsłabszych grup społecznych. Jednakże przepisy wydane przez Archidiecezję zakorzenione są w przekonaniu, że nasze kościoły i miejsca należące do naszej wspólnoty są obiektami sakralnymi, w których ludzie gromadzą się, modlą i oddają cześć Bogu. Istnieją pewne od-stępstwa od tego zarządzenia względem funkcjonariuszy orga-nu ochrony porządku publicznego i innego uprawnionego per-sonelu ochrony bezpieczeństwa.
