December 2016 Tim’s Teen Talk

St Timothy Catholic Church

The Youth Ministers have been challenging themselves to live out the mandate begun by our Pope and reiterated by our Archbishop to be Missionary Disciples. To “get out” and be dis-ciples in the world. We have had a blast seeing all of you at school,

sporting events, concerts and more. Above are some highlights from where we’ve been this fall. Please keep inviting us out into “your” world.

We are taking what we learned this past Fall in Scripture and diving deeper into the person of Christ at Bellarmine Retreat Center on Monday, January 16th, 2017 (RSVP by Jan. 9th) from 8am—6pm. Never been on a retreat before? Retreat’s are all about breaking away from our daily stresses and schedules and making room for God. We have a live band coming, plenty of interactive sessions and food. All you have to bring is a parent note, packed lunch, Bible, warm clothes, and a suggested $10 donation. Sign up online!

Interactive at Home Webinar for Parents & Middle Schoolers We are excited to be bringing a new learning opportunity to our middle school families called the Created to Love Webinar series. Several years ago the Archdiocese of Baltimore instituted a middle school curriculum designed to help parents and middle schoolers have faith based conversations about decision making and healthy relationships. For the last several years we have offered this information in a regional day retreat format. For many families it was just too hard to get away for several hours at a time over the weekend. We also learned that the greatest part of this curriculum is really the conversation that it sparks between parents and teens. So 3 area youth ministers have collaborated to bring this program to you in the comfort of your own homes! The series is broken into 2, one hour webinars that consist of watching short video clips, followed by discussion between parent & teen and then a bit of Q & A work online. The first session discusses what real love is, characteristics of unhealthy relationships and tools to help us be safe in our interactions with others. The second webinar focuses on the vocation of marriage and how what the Church teaches about marriage informs the way we date. The Archdiocese asks that every middle schooler participate in these lessons once during their middle school years. I recommend it for 7-8th grade students. The first session on decision making will be available online starting in January. Please go to our Parish web-site:www.stimothys.org and under Faith Formation click on Edge. You will see the link the webinar series on the Edge webpage. We ask that it is completed by Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017. If you choose to wait a year or opt out of the program please email Marissa because she has to submit records to the Archdiocese [email protected].

Pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception All Edge Teens are invited to join us on a pilgrimage to DC to visit the National Shrine. It is a beautiful cathedral where we will be able to attend mass, have lunch, and then tour the Basilica! The basement is filled with a lot of shrines to different saints, making it a wonderful, hands-on learning opportunity! We will meet at St. Timothy’s on Sunday, February 19 at 10:15am to travel to DC by bus. We plan to be back by 4. We are requesting a $10 donation for the bus. You may pack a lunch or buy one at the Shrine cafeteria. Sign up online as soon as possible since space is limited.

We may have completed our 6 week journey through the Bible this fall, but Edge is far from over. There are so many ways to learn and experience our God that we are stepping out of the Parish Center in January and February and heading out! Our goal is to have ALL middle schoolers attend the Day retreat in January and for every middle schooler to pick one of 2 pilgrimages to: the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception or the Rally for Life .

Steubenville Youth Conference This summer tens of thousands of teens from all over the US and Canada will be gathering to strengthen their faith in Christ and their relationship with His Church at the Steubenville Youth Conferences. Will you be one of them? These conference experiences are packed with amazing liturgies lead by on-fire priests, the best Catholic speakers in the nation, adoration, Mass, and thousands of awesome Catholic teens. We are load-ing up onto a bus with St Joe’s and Holy Family the weekend of July 14-16 celebrating the theme:

“Behold I make all things new” Rev. 21:5

All teens currently in 8-12th grade are eligible to attend this life changing conference experience for only $195 this summer. This conference sells out every year on the first day they offer tickets. SO . . . If you want to go you must turn in a non-refundable deposit of $50 as soon as possible! There are only two spots left!! www.steubenvilleconferences.com

Archdiocesan Work Camp This summer, the Archdiocese of Baltimore is sponsoring their own work camp June 18-23. The work camp will be based out of the Msgr O’Dwyer Retreat House in Sparks, Md (and yes it has a pool). Each day teens will have the opportunity to serve by doing construction and non-profit work. They also will get to enjoy daily Mass and opportunities for Eucharis-tic adoration and confession. The cost is $425 per per-son, so fundraising would be a necessary part of the ex-perience. If you are interested please contact Marissa. A non-refundable $50 deposit is due by February 10, 2017. All other info can be found online. www.baltimoreworkcamp.com

The next day we will be at our sites all day serving our community! iServe is a wonderful way to give back to our community. Details will come soon for sign ups!

Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be July 24-28, 2017. If you helped out last year at Cave Quest sign up to help run the reunion on January 29. Contact Yvette.

An XLT is basically a night of Eucharistic adoration with live worship music followed by fellowship. Our worship experience will be led by the Clint Felts Band. This is a great way to spend the Feast of the Epiphany, the day when the 3 Kings came to worship and adore our Lord. All high school youth are invited to come and follow the example of the 3 Kings on January 6

from 7:30-9:30pm. After about an hour of worship we will head to the gym for food and socializing. This is a great time to reconnect with friends from the Baltimore Work Camp and the Youth Conference.
