Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary time

Today is the Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time. Our focus this weekend continues with this part of the Gospel of Luke concerning the call to discipleship. Jesus sends forth seventy-two of his followers to go out in pairs to carry out his mission. (Is sending them out in pairs, a metaphor that Jesus will always be with us, as we bring Jesus to others, never leaving us alone?) Luke also gives us insight to their return back to Jesus and what they discovered. They were amazed at the power of Jesus at work in them. It brought them great joy! Hopefully we too will find joy when we bring Jesus to others.

A Summer Prayer Long warm days… The pace of life slows… A time for picnics and rest in the shade… Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen. – Author unknown
