SCRIPTURE CORNER THE GREAT HYMN TO LOVE It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living. But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant—and still means—to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others. ———-Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME AN INVITATION TO NON-PRACTICING CATHOLICS St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church will offer a six week series entitled Catholics Returning Home beginning February 15 at 7:00 p.m, in the room B203 on the second floor of the Administration building. The sessions are for non-practicing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the Church. If you know someone who has left the Church, please invite them to join us. For more info call Cindy Vogt at 228-860-5250.

SALTILLO M ISSION Hi there! Just got back from Mexico. Amazing mission. It's an annual mission I've done over the last 10 years... the current village I've visited the last 5 years is called Metlac I. I try to assist them building a church and also fund some community projects. This year it was adding a concrete driveway and parking lot for the chapel. In the afternoon, before Mass I spend several hours anointing the sick and hearing confession while the team visits homes to get to know the villagers. Then after Mass, there are activities for the boys and girls. We finish the night around a bonfire praying the rosary and telling stories. ———Fr. Dominic Pham

RITE OF ACCEPTANCE CELEBRATED On January 12th, at 11:30 Mass, Fr Cuddy cele-brated the Rite of Acceptance for seven adults and three teens entering the Catechumenate. They have been study-ing the Catholic Faith. The Rite marks the point at which the candidates express, and the Church accepts, their in-tention to respond to God’s call to follow the way of Christ. The adult candidates are Mary Acklin, Tammy Doolittle, Debbie Gurley, Chase Jordan, Ashley Kidd, Alyssa Meeker, Jeff McCormick and Viletta McCor-mick. Please welcome them with your encouragement and your prayers.

SAVE THE DATE! Another Life Teen/EDGE Springtime car raffle is in the works! Mark your calendars to attend Friday, April 29th, 2016 in the Community Center. Details are not yet finalized but Rick Foley of Turan Foley Chevrolet-Cadillac-Buick and Foley RV Center has graciously of-fered to donate a 2016 Chevy Malibu for this year’s event. Tickets for the fundraiser will be available for sale once event details are announced. This year, due to parish members request, tickets will not be mailed but once available, can be purchased at church office. Tickets will also be sold after all Masses close to the date of the event. Each ticket price will include food for one (again, details to be announced) and a chance for the car. Wine and beer will be available, so no one under age 21 is per-mitted to attend. Come for the silent auction and car raffle but most of all fellowship and a great cause – proceeds benefit our Support for Youth Ministry. If you have ques-tions, please contact Linda Shirk at [email protected] or phone # 228 547 7921.

CANDLEMAS … will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 2nd. Many Christians consider Jesus as the “light of the world” so it is fitting that candles are blessed on this day. Please bring your candles to the 8:30am Daily Mass on Tuesday, February 2nd for the blessing.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING SESSIONS Dear parents, For the past few weeks I've noticed that we do not have altar servers at the 9:00 am Mass. If your child is sched-uled to serve at Mass, please make sure he/she is at the scheduled Mass to serve. In the event he/she cannot come, please contact another family to have another server take his/her place. Please try to encourage your child to serve as an altar server here at St. Thomas. Children who have received First Holy Communion (3rd grade) already and older can come to the rehearsals. We will have 2 training sessions in the church for new and returning altar servers on the following Wednesdays. NEW ALTAR SERVERS MUST attend these two train-ing sessions: Wednesday, February 17th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Wednesday, February 24th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Please make every effort to bring your child to these rehearsals so that he/she can be well prepared to serve at the altar. Thank you and God bless. —Sr. Cecilia
